I have seen these grey rocks with Tridents on them a number of pictures. Is there some reason for that? What kind of rock is it?

That could be the answer as well... I just know, I love that trunk.
It is very interesting, unique!
The rock itself is unique. It will be a lot of fun to see this develope.

Maybe the rock impaled itself into the tree/trees? Fell from the MOON!!!

What about just removing the top section that looks to straight? Instead of the entire branch...just a thought. Though 2D may have lost us on a bit of movement you think?

Good thought but the branch has wire damage and reverse taper. It just doesn't flow with the rest of the tree.

The wire scar doesn't seem over noticeable it slipped my eye until you brought it out. With the upper branch gone...it would be less feeding into the reverse taper. No way to shave it down a bit? Honestly...I didn't think it was over noticeable. Though long run...maybe. But, as a newbie that's quite a challenge to chop the entire thing.

If that rock is a match...I might be so inclined to cement glue another section on...to increase the height of the rock. So it's not just a stub sticking out. But...I like larger rocks in such a planting. My personal taste.

That's a japanese rock. I think itogawa. Most likely a tree smuggled in a suitcase. I personal would take back hard and start the rebuild a smaller more refine tree leaving the rock to stick out above the tree. I saw this tree on FB auctions also. Almost bought it. But being sick of lately has left me letting 99% of the things I want go. I'll try and make a virt of what I mean.

Not meaning to discredit your guidance @Vin...just thinking how hard a newbie would have making that drastic of a move.
If someone was willing to walk me through the whole process, I'd be willing to consider it. I have hacked a ficus down to one branch and it did well. I know, apples and oranges. I call myself a newb but I've got about 3 years of learning so far.
