    Bamboo chopsticks

I bit the bullet and ordered a bamboo round from Mirai. The thickness is perfect and I made 12-13 varying sized chopsticks from one quarter of the round. The length is great and the strength is perfect for sustained use. After a few trees I took the tip to my sander and resharpened them up for...

Seedling identification- jack pine vs lodge pole pine

Bingo! Finally a differing identifier. Resinous buds! Last week when I saw the difference in the buds I figured I had a solid indicator. The photo of the “intense resin buds” is being ground grown. Thank you, mystery solved. Now I just need to tag each one properly.

Seedling identification- jack pine vs lodge pole pine

Hello all, its been a bit since this post was started. The pines have had a bit of time to mature and they both are two needle pines. The three needles seemed to be a juvenile anomaly. Lets look at the late winter candles. Again... Jack pine or Lodgepole??

    Evolution of Mirai Live

Japanese black pines are multi flush and lodge pole/ jack pines are short needle single flush. These would be treated differently. The first is decandled where the second is not. There is also the long needle single flush, like the white pine. All techniques vary. Junipers have sub categories...

    Evolution of Mirai Live

$18/month is not a small fee to sneeze at. I think the app sounds like it has a lot to offer. I was impressed with its functionality and the offerings, links to species specific videos and consice videos specific to the techniques that are recommended by the calendar. That being said… My...

Tell me why native silver maple sucks?

This volunteer that I have in a concrete planter would get frequent trimmings throughout the growing season. It looks like the ends of the top have some short internodes. This is probably all end of summer, early fall growth.

Tell me why native silver maple sucks?

I’m fairly certain the one in the concrete planter is silver as well. I don’t think I have any pictures in leaf, but to my recollection the leaves are the same on all three. Maybe the fact that it’s always outside, not overwintered in the garage, helps with the aged bark. The bark is one of the...
