    One of my favorite pots

That’s what I did this last fall. Lacy copper can be nice. And no, that is not the stand I used for display. I also really like this pot and was happy to find a great use for it.

    One of my favorite pots

Here’s my latest acquisition. A Shousen, grandson of Yusen. In an attempt to curb the problems his grandfather has had with people making counterfeits, Shousen sells his pots with box, cloth, and certificate.

    Music Stuff

Yamaha marching snare, mahogany djembe, lots of cymbals and percussion gadgets. I love my marching snare. The new Black Max head is an improvement.

Seeing is believing, rings don’t lie!!

I acquired a couple of cross-sections from some old trees. Mostly for the purpose of education and having some proof to show skeptics that some of these trees from the dry western United States are as old as we say they are. I finally got my hands on the right kind of microscope to count these...

    New Large Lodgepole Pine

I’ve been on the 10 for 1 upgrade for the last few years. I used to have 130+ trees. Now I have less than 70, but much better quality. I’d like to get down to 40-50 really great trees.

    New Large Lodgepole Pine

It was collected by Andy Smith a couple years ago. I’ve had my eye on it as it was stabilizing after collection.

    New Large Lodgepole Pine

I think the lodgepole foliage is great especially after dealing with Ponderosa foliage for years. The tree is big and the foliage small, so I’m guessing I’ll leave it.

    Foliar feeding - Do's and don'ts

Yes, I have traced it myself, thanks for the accusation. In a moment when I thought otherwise I did a lot of reading on the subject. I have used miracle grow and other similar products all the years I have done Bonsai, it was an interesting read. If you want to study it, find a way to water...

    Foliar feeding - Do's and don'ts

Trace the history of the claim of foliar feeding and you'll find one study that suggested that maybe there is a slight possibility of minimal gain that comes through foliar feeding. That one study has fueled a claim of benefit through the foliage and a whole industry that lives on that one...

I wonder why Thuja gets a bad rap....

I’ll tell you what I do... 1. The cord foliage that likes to grow up needs to be pruned back hard. Those extensions ruin everything. 2. The growth that extends in triangular form, I always pluck it to look like the half circle of an Hinoki. 3. Eliminate any frond growing up or down, work with...

    Another Nana future fatboy

    Another Nana future fatboy

If you really want it to fatten up, you need to grow it in the ground. Here’s a nana in the ground for 25 years, only one trunk, didn’t reroot anywhere. Here it is three years after collection, hopefully going into a nice pot this spring. If you really want to grow it out, it needs to be...

    This @#$% won't end

Life's easy in Northern Minnesota...cold till Memorial Day. Still two feet of ice on the lakes. So much for the fishing opener.

What ever happened to Peter Tea and John Geanangel?

I was watching the "Today Show" the other day. They were talking about the apps on your phone. Almost every app knows you aren't going to read the fine print of what you are allowing by installing the app. In short you are offering them access to all your contact information( your info and...

I wonder why Thuja gets a bad rap....

It's hard to find pines, that's my favorite. But there are a lot of mangled Thuja as well as White Spruce and Tamarack to be found! The Boundary Waters is a special place!!

I wonder why Thuja gets a bad rap....

Almost all day. The small trees face south. I have no trees around my fenced in area that offer any shade. I live in a cool climate and can get away with pure sun all day.

I wonder why Thuja gets a bad rap....

Thuja will always get a bad rap until the powers that be appreciate them for what you can do with them instead of comparing them to a tight fisted juniper. The foliage is a pain to deal with, that's the other aggravation. It's labor intensive to keep them in check. That being said they are...
