Posted this on another forum, thought I'd share here as well. This is a review for this video http://www.fujikawabonsai.com/fujikawa/en/product/digital-download-bonsai-masterclass-maple-bonsai/
The maple movie is very good, and definitely worth the money!!!
I've watched it a couple times...
Dave Kreutz at http://satsukibonsai-en.com/ is an American expert on Satsukis and has satsuki nursery which he imports trees from Japan. He has the best azalea stock that I've seen in the country. Trust me, I work there occasionally. I don't know if he'll ship but it's worth getting in touch...
Bought this tree from my teacher Dave Kreutz http://satsukibonsai-en.com/. He does this at his nursery so he can hose down all his azaleas pretty quickly when he waters, and the screen keeps the soil in place.
Hollow Trunk Satsuki
Decided I didn't like the branches on this tree when I bought it, so I started over and cut it back completely flush to the trunk. Now I have a lot to choose from. I love azaleas!

Well this has certainly been interesting. My original intent was to question how we spend our time in the hobby. Forums are a big part of it for some people, and I was merely questioning and sharing what I believed at the time I created this post. My hope was that this thread would cause people...
Hello all,
I didn't create this thread to attack, just to create a thought provoking discussion. My apologies if it came across the wrong way. That being said, it's a little concerning how many people had hurtful things to say on this thread. I'm just trying to start a positive and healthy...
Hello all,
I haven't visited this forum in quite some time, I've been busy finishing up my undergraduate degree and any time that I've had for bonsai during went directly to working on my trees.
I've wanted to make a post like this for a while, and although what I'm about to suggest might...
I would suggest next repot to put it into a deeper training pot. The height of the current pot looks good if it was going into a show, but to develop the tree faster I suggest a deeper pot. (I have made this mistake many times). Also satsuki's appreciate the extra leg room! And I think 100%...
For feeding, I use biogold pellets and liquid seaweed. Sometimes I will use fish emulsion, but the smell causes problems, but the trees love it. During the growing season I use liquid seaweed once a week, in conservative doses. I put biogold pellets on until they disappear, then put a new one...
This, to be honest, is not the best material. But since it appears to be young, wire movement in it. It is way to early for a trunk chop in my opinion. Your primary concern should be growing, it is far from a "bonsai".
SK
Since you have not edited you profile to tell us where you live, we cant really help you. I can tell you from my experience in Missouri though. We have real bad soil around the STL area. So, trees need to be grown out in pots. What I have learned from working at one nursery is that all you need...
I did some research on what styling you could do.
The Kabudachi style, (or sprout style).
"This is a style where many sprouts grow from a single stump. Each trunk should be different in height and size while having harmony. The entire appearance is natural and gives a genuine forest-like...
