    Happy Bonsai

Harry, Step away from the scotch bottle. ;) So your condoning illegal imports, possible enhancement of invasive species, and unfair trade practices for the growers and vendors in the US? This sounds very unlike you. You feeling alright buddy?

    Happy Bonsai

To the best of my understanding they are.....we all know about the sale and importation of Japanese Black Pine to the US....I won't even talk about importing it into Cali . Those trees that do get imported as bonsai go to licensed broker....and they are still subject to quarantine...so you...

    Happy Bonsai

They do ship from China. Have seen there material up close and personal.....very expensive material for what there offering that needs loads of attention. The only advantage I can see, is that they do offer some material that can be hard to find here in the states Really important....read...

    Clearing Inventory

Thanks all for the good wishes! Special thanks to Subnet for the formatting fix...trying to get it fixed by ebay was like arguing with a brick wall...so I pulled all the trees down that didn't sell and re-posted them. Anyway..the new trees CAN be viewed in any browser now and for you Erin...

    Low Nitrogen Fertilizers?

To pigeon hole all trees in one type of fertilization regime is kind of self defeating. 0-10-10 as a fall and very early spring feed does have significant impact on flowering and fruiting trees....try getting a wisteria to bloom on what your suggesting....very unlikely that it will (flower) on a...

    Clearing Inventory

Yes, With the real estate market being prime for the picking and prices just about as low as they will go. We purchased a property that offers an excellent opportunity to consolidate the business. The property also will provide all the things I want for my customers, from an excellent studio for...

    Clearing Inventory

Hi Art, Yes, and Yes.....I have shipped to northern California...However it needs to be shipped UPS 3 day select at a minimum. All the trees I send are packed in a mini-green house (for lack of a better word) to retain moisture. Have never ever had a death from shipping due to the precautions...

    Clearing Inventory

Hi Boyd, Yes they do survive in Louisiana. Have sold several to customers as far south as Oakdale. BTW: These trees have all been bare rooted....the "PA clay" Irene speaks off is from a project some years back where I experimented with collecting Yews and shipping them to customers with them...

Subnet thanks for the advise...will try it if and when they ever let me in to revise my items.....BTW, didn't use Word, typed the first item straight in, then used the sell similar option.......did I mention that ebay can be a most frustrating experience.

    Clearing Inventory

Hey all, With the economy starting to show signs of life we've decided to make the jump to a new retail space. I'm starting to clear some inventory to make the move. Below are some links to items we threw up on ebay to get it started. Will post more as we decided on how much the heard gets...

The perils of rasing bonsai in Oklahoma...

My condolences on the Red Pine Harry, and it's predecessors. I have to agree with Bill on the subject of dealers. I have also bought from dealers for my personal collection and for the businesses inventory. At re-potting time, much to my horror, find a root maybe two. This (IMO) is nothing...

Scots Pine needs some drastic back budding

Guff, the fundamental building blocks for pines to back bud is that they are first healthy and feed very well. As most generally under feed their trees I would suggest you follow this table for feeding guidelines. Being in the UK you could find most the things needed from Kaizan. You might also...

    White Pine Stock

What Zach said... He is right on all accounts...except, I'd have to agree with G, to me it does look more Spruce like than Fir...needles are a bit to pointy to be a fir

    White Pine Stock

Re-potting now would be very risky...especially since it is in a weakened state. So..... I would dig a hole drop your tree into it and let mother nature tend to it till spring of next year. Then hopefully it will be a bit healthier and able to handle the stress of re-potting. Placing the tree...

    Where do they go?

I highly doubt the Japanese have given us all their tricks and secrets. Even if they have we most likely lost something in translation....we've done it before. I agree with AL that the internet has probably done more harm than good with technique revelations. Its a kin to a magician telling the...

    Collected hawthorn

Hi Jan, All I can say is WOW! ...Very nice trunk and great recovery response. I think it might be a bit early to decide on styling choices...but one can dream I suppose :p Great find...give it a chance to rest and recoup and you'll have some stonker material in no time at all

How long can a field maple stay dormant?

Your done for this year, in fact I would venture that you want it to stay dormant. Not much benefit will come from it popping its buds this year hardening off and then shortly there after dying off with the cool fall winds. Next spring if its cambium is still green and you have given a chance...

A few newer material obtained this year (ponderosa, corkbark elm, american hornbeam)

Very nice cork bark, the trunk is very pleasing to the eye....this will be a great tree with the proper design choices. I think your right about the hornbeam. Will take some time to heal the scare. I might suggest using Matt Owinga's wrap method for a slightly faster finish and a much better...
