    Re-potting Tridents After Leaf Out

Just looking for some feedback on the dangers of re-potting Tridents after they have leafed out. I've still got a bunch of them that I haven't had time to re-pot and due to the early Spring here in Jersey they are all almost fully leafed out. I have the same question regarding my Zelkovas but...

    Soapy Insect Repellent

I'd be curious to know the answer to the Neem Oil question that Bill S. posts. I have changed my recipe from detergent to Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Soap because it's pure soap and very, very mild. I was using vegetable oil in the recipe but have started using Neem Oil occasionally for it's...

    Bonsai Tools

I don't know how that post was entered three times but if I somehow did it, it was purely by accident. What did you do, miss your afternoon nap? Or were you born not knowing how to talk to people?

    Bonsai Tools

Well now I'm really in doubt. I started out all gung ho to get three tools and little by little people are talking me out of them......lol. But I appreciate the input. I will definitely be getting a saw. I can't go hunting for wild stuff without a nice sharp saw.

    Bonsai Tools

Thanks for the quick replies guys, Yes, I've bought from Dallas Bonsai before. I believe it was for wire. And I found them to be very reputable and trustworthy. I'd like more feedback on whether I would need both a Knob Cutter and a Concave Cutter. If I can get away with just the...

    Bonsai Tools

I am in the market for a set of Knob Cutters and also Branch Cutters. I'm also looking for a good quality hand saw for getting through those large branches and roots when collecting. There are many sites selling tools. I just have no clue which ones are decent and which are junk. :)...

A Bonsai From an Ivy Plant?

Well, from the above pictures I'd say my question has been answered. I think I'll have to find some wild though, that has some age on it and a good start on a trunk as trying to thicken from a small cutting might be going against the grain.

A Bonsai From an Ivy Plant?

Anyone ever do any work with Ivy, either the outdoor Ivy or plain old Heder helix? My wife has some houseplants that are Ivy with very small leaves. Just wondering how difficult it would be to develop them as anything besides a Cascade style.

    Italian Stone Pine Care!

Well, I've re-hydrated it. It looks very nice now. I've acclimated it in a cool room and insulated it and it's now in the garage for better or worse. Victrinia Ridgeway has guided me through the process and I'm hoping for the best. Many of the articles read say it's OK down into the 20's...

    Italian Stone Pine Care!

Well I'll deal with those issues if and when I get it through the winter and into a pot. :) I've decided on an unheated garage with insulation around it's pot. I will put the pot it's in in a larger pot and pack turface around the smaller pot to insulate it. Hope it works.

    Italian Stone Pine Care!

I just liberated a droopy Italian Stone Pine from a post Christmas sale at Sam's Club. I have found that it cannot handle the cold that we experience here in New Jersey in winter and would like to get some feedback as to how to care for it over the remainder of winter either indoor in a cool...

    What to do?

I would go along with Irene's reply as well. Also, if you are not 'set up' for tropicals it is best to stay with plants that are native to your area. I live in a northern area where tropicals cannot exist outside during the winter and find it quite easy to keep them happy indoors with...

How Do You Deal With Squirrels?

This sounds promising. Now I just need confirmation that Cayenne or any pepper powder will not harm my trees. Does anyone know?

How Do You Deal With Squirrels?

Paul, Daphne is a cutie and she would probably team up well with my Oreo who so far has 11 squirrels, two rabbits, and an opossum to her credit. But we have so many squirrels she has only scratched the surface. She does make life miserable for them though. Truck, you are the...

How Do You Deal With Squirrels?

I know that garlic can be used to keep rabbits from digging up plants and I've had issues with squirrels every year. I'm wondering if any of you have any knowledge of something similar that can be used against squirrels.

    My new "Christmas tree"

A question: I have been to the site many times and always wondered whether the tree in the picture is actually the one that they send you. Is the tree you saw on the site the actual tree you got? Sometimes the prices posted seem really, really low for the plant in the picture. Oh, btw it's a...

    Soapy Insect Repellent

Somewhere on here I saw a recipe for a home made insect repellent that's ingredients included dish soap, and I think either vegetable oil or rubbing alcohol or both. I will be using it on some indoor plants, mostly Fukien Tea. If anyone has the recipe for this solution I'd appreciate it or...

    Podocarpus nivalis issues!!

I think the humidity level in the room definitely needs looking at, especially since I have forced hot air and misting while nice for a brief time is not the way to go about humidifying over time. I did spray the new growth with Safer's Soap and the leaves are showing signs of opening back up...

    Podocarpus nivalis issues!!

Well, the thing about it that bothers me is that two days ago all that curled growth was straight. It started out straight and then went curly on me.
