    Inverted cutting elm

I have a root cutting from a cork bark elm that I turned upside down for taper. It has grown just fine. The bottom of the trunk was a chunk of root sawed from a large root.

    Shohin azalea in full bloom

Here is a small Wakaebisu azalea, about ten or eleven inches tall, almost completely bloomed. I like the color of these flowers, plus it is a strong tree. The apex was broken off in a 100 mph wind storm several years ago. Since then I have been rebuilding the top but it’s still a little thin up...

    RIP in pieces

I use a product called MoleMax - it’s a repellant for all rodents made from castor oil. I had issues before but not since I started using it. I’ve used it for about 5-6 years now.

    luvinthemountains cork bark elm

You will need to cut the top back eventually. It looks a little thick up there. Seems like cork bark elms will shed lower branches when the top gets too heavy.

    New family member

We adopted two six month old rescue pups this spring. Simon is a red heeler/shepherd mix and Nina is a pit bull/ black lab mix. Simon was several days from being euthanized when he was rescued. They are great dogs, smart and loads of fun.

If rats are pestering you..... (mice too...maybe squirrels..)

I don’t think anyone has mentioned that if you remove all sources of food, your rodent problems go away pretty quickly. Check and make sure there’s no garbage, bird food, or grain crops that they have access to.

Is there a "typical" cause of air layer failure?

Whether it’s cloning, air layering, or ground layering, I always use the healthiest, most robust trees. You air layered two trees that were recently transplanted.

    Nice fall color on barberry

Here is some nice color on this shohin barberry. This is the best angle to view the color, from straight on it’s not that good. Barberries are not fun and hard to work but sometimes you get this.

    Japanese Euonymus #1

Great tree ! Does this euonymus have bright red color in fall ? Where I live the color is better than maple. I like the strong pot for this tree.

    Will it recover? (Japanese larch)

I have seen larch way more dead than that recover. It may not bud out until the middle of next summer.

Cork bark elm from root cutting

Here is a shohin cork bark elm grown from a root cutting. This is from Telperion Farms, so it is special for me, they sent me a few sawed off chunks of roots to turn into bonsai. It has been so hot and dry here that I am watering 3 times a day sometimes, and so I get moss on the trunk. Just...
