Whoa! That’s awesome! I can’t wait to see how it goes! If you make it down to the Ozarks I’ve got a secret spot where there might be some decent material. I got permission to collect there, too. I just haven’t taken the time yet.

Haven’t posted in a while, here’s an update on the olive (the newer one with the bigger base): Just continuing the pattern of letting it grow and cutting it back.

Not really, growth has been a little slow, I’ve been hands-off for a while now, just letting them rev up their engines. I’ll probably sell the original smaller one, I’m trying to pare down quite a bit to focus more on my better material.

I like to have a couple in each stage of development (within financial reason) just to keep from getting bored or restless. I’ve got some native collected stuff that’s coming along, but there’s only so much I can do with it at the moment. I have a few that are years and years away from decent...

Update: Got the last of the leaves cut off and shortened a couple shoots. Now I have to do a little selection, and it’ll need a some more structural wire eventually. Yeah I think the best way to “address” the issue is just to eventually pot the tree into a more unorthodox container instead of trying to play it off as a super traditional bonsai. I could plant a little deeper, but I’d have to go pretty deep to hide the flaw. I don’t intend to let the tree grow...

Quick fall update: The tree was decandled in early July, then lightly thinned and wired a couple days ago. I wasn’t comfortable removing too many old needles because there weren’t very many. I’d rather keep the tree strong than perfectly balanced at this stage. But I haven’t been in the game...

Can't forget CrespiBonsai, todd_schlafer_bonsai, and BonsaiBoon! And me, of course, lol. I've been known to post a mediocre tree every now and then. I'd love to meet some more insta folk.

Another update on the larger maple, still growing well. Starting to see some good callous.

Yes I decided against the low chop. I'm not really going for a sumo with this one. I wanted to start developing branches. I may regret it later, but it's the path I chose and I'm currently happy with it, lol.

Quick update: Just did a 3rd cutback on this trident. Finally felt good about the thickness of the lower branch at this point. I may cut it a little farther back, but it mainly looks long because I left the stub of a long internode. So far, I've been pretty diligent about cutting back for tight...
