Hey Wilson, Thanks a million!!!That beech has one mighty base!!! The nebari speak to a great health in those roots, well done taking your time.
Would love to see it when it comes out.I am looking forward to pulling my collected beech out of it's winter sleep, but here in Quebec spring can be slow to arrive!
That's certainly an unusual one! I'd like to see the surface rootage. Happy chiseling! So I got a bit stir crazy and chiseled out some of my trees, so here are some quick photos of the beech. It was collected last year, just letting it get used to a domestic life.View attachment 96451 View attachment 96452 View attachment 96453 View attachment 96454 View attachment 96455 View attachment 96456
Hey Wilson, thank you so much Sir. I'm glad to be of service. This one has and continues to provide many lessons for me. One more season of growth after this one and it finally, Lord willing, will go into a bonsai pot. I can't wait!!Seriously this is one of my favourite trees! I can say this is a real lesson for me on the benefits of patience and planning. It looks like it could be one of the giants growing in the woods next to my home, great work Steve!
Borg, thanks a million Sir! This has been a loooonnnnggg time coming. ( hey that could be a song title) Stay with it.Absolutely beautiful! I have a small beech that's quite a ways off from becoming anything more worthy of "stick-in-pot." One day, it may look good. Yours is stunning.
Oh, I plan on it.Borg, thanks a million Sir! This has been a loooonnnnggg time coming. ( hey that could be a song title) Stay with it.
Thanks for allowing me to post.

God bless you my long distance bud!! His pricing is a tad out of line. Concerning pots, it's very rare for me to put something in a pot right away. I learned early on that you will lose lots of time if you pot too early, especially with something like that beech tree. Leave things in a larger container or the ground for awhile, let 'em gain some girth and heal over transition areas( trunk chops). It all really depends on the individual tree. If I had potted that one early on, it wouldn't be anywhere close to where it is now and it's been almost 3 decades even then. The sacrifice branch is necessary to get that bottom branch strengthened, we have to overcome apical dominance. Even after it's removed next year, I anticipate letting the branch grow out way past it's outline every 3-5 years to keep it strong. Thanks again Sir!SK.....
Dude trying to off that $300 cutting needs to say this....
Certainly not a gentleman like to yourself!
I didn't realize it wasn't in a bonsai pot till I read that!
Must be a nice tree!
I really dig the sacrifice....
Thank you for being SK!
I think I've said that before!
