Yes sir - as best as you can measure it. Units don't matter as long as you're consistent.

Let us know what you find.

Scott

Well, you know, no promises I will follow through and actually do it but I may.
Amongst others things I'm quite curious about the effect of mycorrhizal mycelium on AFP and water retention. I have a couple trees in chunky 3/8- 1/2" substrate top to bottom. Obviously very high AFP to start with but now I can lift them out of the pot and the whole unit looks like a block of styrofoam, they get watered less than they used to now.
Anyhow, thanks for continuing to contribute to the soil topics. I agree with others that it can be very simple and there are well proven methods to follow but that to me is no reason to not be interested and curious. I always enjoy soil, substrate, water and fert discussions.

I know this much from experience, an oyster mushroom grown in a pot can smother everything else, including worms. They also can seriously impede drainage.

BTW everyone, as much as I sound like a naysayer, I am not say anything against the research. Just trying to put a cap on the excitement. I use this kind of information often but people who don't know better may get the impression they need a degree in hydrodynamics to pot a tree.

Good point. Despite my own ideas and inquiries if dude from the street asked me how to pot a tree I would direct him to Walter Palls substrate watering and fertilizing articles and videos. Simple idiot proof advice, just follow
directions and don't worry.

It is impossible to make anything idiot proof. 'Fool proof', I agree, can be done. Its a fine line ....
Dunno, average idiots are likely to realize that they're better off following others advice. They can have a good chance of success by following a straightforward plan. Fools on the other hand may well believe themselves to be much more clever and will inevitably do something foolish given enough time.
My money's on the idiots;).

It works for me.
