20160521_090243.jpg 20160521_085722.jpg 20160521_090010.jpg Hey guys, so I made it out to s print dig with the winnipeg bonsai society, and we went collecting in a muskeg bog land about an hour east of winnipeg. Here are two beauties I liberated. I'm looking for general advice, for their immediate and distant future.
They're both in a sand perlite compost soil mix.. unscreened unfortunately. My computer rooting feet has been applied about 2 week ago upon potting. No feeding since. Partial sun. Thanks for lookin'!

I would guess eastern white cedar or the like, the soil doesn't look like good bonsai soil, that's going to set you back a bit and make sure you watch not to over water. Other then that it needs to recover for a year or two. At this point I would let it grow unchecked and next spring slip pot the root ball(rough it up so it's fuzzy) into a pumice type mix to help start that process. Good luck with them

my guess would also be eastern white cedar, Thuja occidentalis.

your potting mix is not ideal, if it were less than a week ago I would repot into a sifted mix, pine bark and pumice, or a mix of other aggregates, but only if you can sift it to get rid of fines.

If it has been more than a week since collection, I would just leave them alone for a year or two. Then move them to better soil. It may take a couple years for them to get growing vigorously. Don't worry about ''styling'' then until after you have had a full year of vigorous growth.

It's been two weeks. I figure there's no repotting in its near future .. there some well rotted leaf mulch in there also. I was planning on mostly uninhibited growth for next two yrs.
