I have stared at this thing today from about 5 different angles. After contemplating each as a future tree, I decided on Mellow's vision. When someone takes the time to draw out their interpretation of something it should be seriously considered. Boy did MM hit it out of the park! Yes, there's more to do but what a transformation!

Kinda looks like an old live oak we have around here, great job. In the future if you have so many problems, just send it to me and I'll help you decide :)

Wow, I feel "honored", as there were some really good suggestions. Would you like the original drawing?

That tree has an awesome trunk and base.

John
I would love to have the original drawing (especially if you sign it :)). What's also kind of interesting is I have a pot that is very close to the one you drew that has been sitting empty just waiting for the right tree. Cool stuff!

I just saw this thread today for the first time. I was going to sat go upright and Moyogi all the way but I see you are going in that direction. This tree has awesome potential and you are doing a good job being carful on you decision making.

I had to move it this morning due to some inclement weather. There is already some new growth and buds appearing. Cool stuff!

Well finally we have a bud where it needs to be! Here's an update. I repotted it in February as @Mellow Mullet outlined in his drawing. I have just been letting it grow and hoping for a bud on the branch that was the subject of discussion on the possibility of removal. Once it fills in a bit I'll cut back to it and hope for some additional back budding.

The nebari is a full 7 inches across.

Still some adjustments that need to be made but it seems well on its way to bonsai.

It is looking awesome Vin. That base is incredible.
I agree and can't thank you enough for your direction! The base was somewhat hidden when I got it but I really felt it was going to set it apart from many others. Also, there is most definitely a front and back to this tree.
