IMG_1554.JPG IMG_1553.JPG IMG_1552.JPG i found a couple of pieces of lace rock while hiking up here in the badlands. I have a little communis juniper collected fairly close by. I trained it in a windswept style (I know, not easy to do), and want to plant it in it at some point. The lace rock has a natural hole I can use for drainage. I think with some native dry land plants as underplantings and the windswept juniper, it could look like a little windswept tundra or alpine outcropping. What do you all think? Here's the rock. I'll take some pics of the juniper when I feel like wandering out in the snow.

IMG_1551.JPG IMG_1550.JPG IMG_1549.JPG IMG_1548.JPG The other lace rock I found has a big hollow out the front. I'm not sure what to plant in it yet. Some small leaved or small needled native species either cascading or rising out of the hollow. I also want to get some small local alpine plants and put them in the little holes in the back like rock gardeners do with tufa. Any other suggestions? Pics of that rock above.

Here is the common juniper I plan to plant on the first rock. I've actually had it for two growing seasons. It actually looks really good when it has just been styled. This year I removed the wire and let it go crazy hoping it would gain strength. It is quite young, but is still a collected common juniper, so I don't want to push it too much to always look it's beast, since I've had mixed luck with them. I want to style it properly as a windswept again next spring, then plant it on the rock the following year along with some native alpine groundcovers. Feedback on this display/styling idea welcome.

Collected walking distance from where I found the lace rock. Presently in a fake "rock".
