Any thoughts on whether it is Chinese or Japanese stone? Leaning towards Chinese because of color. Front and side view. I like sidea view it looks like it is bowing towards you.20161123_193531-918x1632.jpg 20161123_193531-918x1632.jpg 20161123_193531-918x1632.jpg 20161123_193600-918x1632.jpg

I am not sure if it is quite a Scholar's stone [ which is Chinese ] ???

Though I am curious as to how you would use it.
Good Day

Example from National Bonsai Museum...looks the same to me minus the fantastic patina.

Az, I meant it didn't look like a Scholar's stone. What could you imagine ?
A Scholar's stone is for contemplation.
Are you saying my stone is so ugly you can't even look at it? :):):):):):)

I am not the deepest thinker, regardless of the quality of the stone. :) However, I think I see where you are going. The rock is not that contemplative. I see a squat little man bowing forward....I guess that would make it more of a Japanese Suiseki.

Leaning towards Chinese because of color.

Seems to be a limestone which would qualify it in China, but the best there are from three different areas and named so.
It does have awkward and overhanging asymmetry which is very good.
Does it ring a bit when struck? If so it is also a desired quality.
When representative of any object or landscape is also desired.
A glossy surface is also desired but could be corrected.

So it appears to have the aesthetics of a Scholar's Rock. Treat it as such, clean it, gloss it, put it on a Rosewood stand and enjoy ;)

Thanks Grimmy I appreciate your post! It does not ring and I have started the cleaning process. Will work on the rosewood stand. Have a great day.

Agree with Dav4, looks very much like Texas holey rock, easily found in Austin and surrounding Hill County areas. You can also buy it at quarium shops, used for rock scape.
