Per Tom's earlier question about having the fields turn sidewise when rotating your phone, my recently released app, Cactus Album, does this. I'll be taking a similar approach with my next app, Orchid Album.

I'm planning to overhaul the Bonsai Album interface in the same fashion. If you want to get an idea how it'll look, check out Cactus Album Lite and let me know what you think :)

Just tried it and its exactly what I was suggesting. Looking forward to the next version.

Andrew you indicated some time ago that the Windows version would be available 2014. Just wondered how that was coming?

Doug: Development of the Windows version is coming along painfully slowly. It'll be lucky to see a 2014 release, but I'm still going to try. One of the stumbling blocks is having to cater to the lowest common denominator (i.e. Windows XP).

Then again, now that Microsoft no longer supports XP, I'm wondering if I can just make Vista or Windows 7 the minimum requirement. Would anyone strenuously object to that? And if they do, what's the reason for still running an almost 13-year-old operating system that's no longer supported?

Thanks for your response. And authors of software often, as you know, only publish programs for the latest version of the operating system. I would suggest you base things on Window 7. Looking forward to the release.

Anothe addition I think might be cool, is another tab for "tasks". It could run just like Reminders app on the iPhone. Enter the tasks you want to do or thought of, and click them off when they are done.

I downloaded the lite version to try it out. It would be nice if you had the option to write in the style instead of selecting one of the preselected options. Banyan style was not an option. I'll probably end up buying the full version if I can figure out how to use it.

For those of you who collect plants other than bonsai, or who have gardens you'd like to document, this week I've released a new iOS app called Plant Album. In addition to tracking plant details, watering schedules, and creating log entries, Plant Album also allows you to group plants into gardens. The app is localized into several languages including English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese.

You can learn more about the new app at http://PlantAlbum.com

If you live in the Northern hemisphere, I hope you and your trees are keeping warm. We're getting some nasty polar vortex weather up here near Chicago :O

Hello Andrew,

I purchest your app Bonsai Album for Iphone and Mac. I have to say you did a great job. Being first time user i would have liked to have a small tips and trics manual. For example a small explanation of all the tabs you have to fill in.

As an example i am not sure What to fill in ID, what to write at Fertilizer and Medium.

I am using Parrot Flower Power and i can acuratly fill in Light and temperature. It would be easy if i could import the date from parrot so i can have a very acurate lof of wether data. Maybe a way to import them from CSV. file.

PS: If you would need some one to beta test of offer feedback i offer my assistance.

There are FAQ pages for iOS:

http://andrewnicolle.com/bonsai-album-frequently-asked-questions-faq

And Mac:

http://andrewnicolle.com/faq-bonsai-album-for-mac

Though it sounds like they might need more questions and answers added ;)

The ID field is for any identifier you might want to add. This appears on the main list also.

The Fertilizer field is meant for any details about the type of fertilizer the tree needs, along with frequency and quantity.

Medium is what soil or other medium your tree is planted in. This would be the place to detail whatever mix you're using.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Any word on the Windows version? I'd like to get it on my computer at home, I hate using my phone screen for things.

Stumbled across this app while doing research to build my own app. Ain't gonna bother now! I'm glad I found this thread since I was concerned that the current version is showing no reviews on my iPad. Not sure if something is amiss or if nobody bothers to post a review. I will once I use it for a bit. :)
