I'm the same @carol83, I'm loving the BRTs. I'm really excited to see how my planted one ends up in the Spring, I'm pretty much ignoring it until then.

Make sure and show us in the Spring. If I planted mine in the ground they would have frozen to death a month ago:(. illinoissucks.com (phrase stolen from @sorce ;))

This is my first year with them, so certainly wait for the more experienced, for the best advice. Mine spent the summer and fall outside, and grew like mad. I was prepared for it to drop all its leaves when moved inside, but surprisingly it didn't. (a smaller one I have, did, but they came back quickly). They are in front of my patio doors, with a southern exposure, and an additional grow light. So far, so good. You should get one, they are fun trees, not fussy.

Should do fine! I know I lady who keeps hers in her bathroom in winter and it gets zero direct sun light, only ambient light from the small window. I personally have a tropical greenhouse so I can't say from personal experience.

I have mine under 6 4 foot flourescent 32 watt daylight bulbs in my basement for the winter. I got 2 fixtures that hold 3 bulbs each at Home Depot.

They do fine and the grow so you still have to keep them trimmed.

I had the out this summer but before tjat, they spent 18 months under those lights and lived.

I have mine in a south facing window with a regular florescent shop light over it. I use a seedling heat mat for a little extra bottom warmth, mine grows like a weed all winter. I'm away for a week, and I probably won't recognize it when I get back...

its usually around 70-73 degrees in the house all winter and if this thing i have is accurate its around 40% humidity. .. I got some 6500k CFL lights i can keep it under, i rent a room in a house and there is not much open space left in the room so i dont really have a place to put a humidifier. i do have a south facing window i could set it in front of during the day light. i could get a warmer but being in nice size ceramic pot i am not sure if that would actually help or not..

summer time there is a screened in patio that gets lots of sun light, i could put it out there for the spring and summer. going by that do you think i would be ok in my house under those conditions.

I'm interested to see how all these Raintrees develop, seems like many of us have similar arrangements and lighting concerns. I've also got a BRT, training in Ohio.

Yes you should be fine. You shouldn't need a humidifier, just good watering practices and good light source. Bottom heat is a plus. Why do you want to put it in a screened in patio in the summer? Full sun outside would be better.

the patio is facing south, it would get full sun in there, if there was a huge storm or something it would keep the plant from getting damaged. we get allot of big storms with allot of wind and tree branches falling down and what not..

So I cut this branch here, didn't want any further growth to widen the trunk and I'm starting to get some growth right in the armpit. I'll need to pinch that off, just thought it was fascinating.

Yes, exactly like that. I like that one. It's got a lot more curve and character to the trunk than mine.

I was reading on Savannah trees today, some theories on why they are typically straight without low hanging branches. Has to do with withstanding grass fires and herbivores. Pretty interesting.

I've been to Wigert's and seen his canopy BRT, it's extremely impressive.

You might find this link instructive and interesting.
