Excellent instructions!
I have a question about removing so much material though. Could you have achieved the same result with deep vertical cuts up the branch? And wrapping with raffia after would have protected while it healed over ( and maintained more bark?).
Very good resource, thanks! Well explained and documented. I find it funny that such an accomplished artist as yourself with pen and ink would use these abstract, Microsoft paint looking drawings! LOL. I mean, I know you wouldn't take the time to do such a detailed drawing as you do for your scrolls... Just saying the contrast between what you normally post here and these little computer drawings is striking!

Do you have a pic of a tree you have used this technique on to help people visualize what it can do for a "boring" piece of material?
