Field Maple stump giveaway - MD pickup only

Posted on tree selling forum, but also posting here, since it's just giving away the tree, not selling. Field maple purchased from Evergreengardenworks long time ago as a gallon pot. Currently 4 inches at the base and over 4ft high. Giving away to someone who can provide better care, as I...

Field Maple Stump - Pickup MD area only

Field maple that I bought as a one gallon pot from Evergreengardenworks. It was little over 1/2 inch when I got it, now it 4 inches at the base. It's in a healthy shape, but I cannot provide enough sun, and I wish to give it to someone who can take care of it better. Pickup only in Montgomery...

Newbies - want to share your trees?

Here's my elm with all the leaves gone. Will need some branch cleanup in the Spring. It's been slowly losing cork bark no matter how much I try to keep the trunk dry with careful watering, and it's almost all gone now :(

    Fixing a Field Maple Stump

This field maple stump with very little roots survived and grew many branches, although it didn't grow as much as I hoped. I was hoping I would get some branches at the long empty section at the top (arrow). Maybe if I cut back on the top next year, it may back bud? Hope to clean the lower...

2022 5 year discount rack Peris japonica

50% clearance from local Home Depot garden center. Initial plan is to wait until spring then repot and shape the tree.

Newbies - want to share your trees?

Local Home Depot is having clearance on trees/shrubs. Picked up a Pieris japonica with about 2 inch base. If it survives until the spring, I could move it to training pot and get rid of the straight and thick branches.

Newbies - want to share your trees?

My little elm tree refuses to change the color :) Put on decent amounts of branches and the lower branches were grown out to hopefully add some girth to the lower trunk.

Newbies - want to share your trees?

My Yatsubusa Elm got a good haircut after all the leaves hardened. Shortened the tree about 1/3, where it was a just a straight branch growing upwards.

Newbies - want to share your trees?

The field maple stump I pulled and fitted into 12 inch bulb pan is leafing out. Hopefully it regains energy this year and develops some branches to use.

Newbies - want to share your trees?

My Yatsubusa elm leafing out much earlier then last year. The plan is to get some better branching, reduce the top, and grow out the lower branch (arrow).

    Fixing a Field Maple Stump

Thanks for the tips and the article guys. I remember using grey JB Weld putty for a cracked pvc pipe. I will try the wood color one. Thanks again.

    Fixing a Field Maple Stump

I dug up a field maple stump that was planted some years ago. When I started digging, what I though was the base of the tree (red line) just had 3 roots, and the true base was even lower. Is there a safe way to fix that bulge (black arrow) created by the higher roots? Will grinding away with...

    Cork bark inverse taper

It is producing crazy numbers of shoots at the spots where the branch was cut back o_O. There are some spots where 5 or 6 new shoots are coming out from a single junction. Do I wait until the leaves harden off to remove the unwanted growth? Or is it earlier the better when it comes to...

    Cork bark inverse taper

Starting to leaf out now. Fixed root girdling issue, lost some branches to some sort of animal last year. Did some cut back this couple weeks ago, and hoping to build some branches. I need to get some deer/rabbit repellent.

    Nursery find - ID please

Went to a commercial garden center pick up some indoor house plants, and found this tree in a neglected state (some branches are broken, leaves crushed) at cheap price. It only had price and no other descriptions and cashiers didn't know what species this was. Could this be a hornbeam? Some...

    Cork bark inverse taper

The tree survived the winter and leaves are emerging. I repotted the tree on Apr 1st, in 12 inch bulb pan with 1:1:1 akadama, lava, pumice. Top of the soil is covered with finely chopped sphagnum moss. The goal for this year is to keep the tree healthy, and clean up some areas where 3 or more...

I guess I'll embrace its natural lumpiness and hope in next several years it becomes a good starter tree :)

    Cork bark inverse taper

Thanks for the tip with lower branch and moss. Quick search on the forum shows that the vinegar and soft brush is the way to get moss off right?
