    New pond waterfall

Redid a waterfall in one of my ponds. The stump on the top doubles as a seat. I still have to add a valve to reduce the amount of water & hide the cord & rope to the pump but pleased so far. I always go for a natural look, like it's always been there & I built my house around it.

Raised Grow Bed vs Straight Ground

Does anyone's have a preference between growing out pre-bonsai in a raised bed vs just straight in the ground? If so, why?

    Snowden

The fence is 3 feet high over there. Lol If we’ve gotten this much snow I hate to think what @M. Frary is getting especially since I know @sorce & @Leo in N E Illinois aren’t getting any of this nonsense.

    Tool Storage

How does everyone store their tools? Do you keep everything in one tool box? Separate tool box for wiring, repotting, & general stuff? I go back & forth on what I like best.

    2016/2017 Camaro convertible

any nuts own a newer Camaro convertible? If so how do you like it? I've got an 02 firebird convertible. Hate hand washing but not sure about taking through a car wash (low pressure one). I really like the newest Camaros. Also always wanted a Trans Am. Not sure if I should save up for a newer...

    Yardadori Garden Pond Junipers

So when I first built/dug my garden ponds I planted lots of accent junipers and misc evergreens. Living in one of many lands of ice and snow I wanted year round color, hence my natural love of evergreens. These have been growing for years unattended. I need to trim them down regardless this...

    Colorado Blue Spruce

So here is a Colorado Blue Spruce that is one of 2 I purchased years ago in 1 gallon nursery cans. This one was placed in the ground a few times ending up here the last 2-3 years. The other has been in/out of grow beds repotted last year in what I don't remember, but hasn't grown the same...

    Don't Stop Believin...

So I've noticed a few threads/comments lately expressing frustration by long time members cataloging their negative experiences when offering help and either being completely ignored, dragged into an argument with someone talking out their rear ends with little experience related to the topic...

    Progressions forum

Ok, I accidently sent this message to the admin before I realized this forum existed and would've been the proper place to post it: "Hello, I'm sure you get site suggestions all the time, mine is, have you thought of a way to group long term tree progression threads together in one forum/place...

When to air layer Dawn Redwood?

So I have 2 Dawn Redwoods grown from seedlings in a grow bed (soil mix equal parts top soil, pea gravel, sand and compost mulch). They are getting close where waiting any longer to trunk chop them will leave me with very little taper. Since these I need to purchase online, I want to make the...

    When to chop American Larch?

So I have a few American Larch in my grow beds and one in the ground. When is the best time of year (zone 5, just started leafing out) to do a trunk chop on these? I thought about air layering but given that I want to do that to my Dawn Redwoods and get a few different species, I might not have...

    Pond start up...

So for ponders in cold climates like mine you get a few different takes on overwintering...run an airstone to keep a hole in the ice for air exchange (people worry about toxic gases building up, I always figure bacteria slow down in the cold, not a huge issue), run a heater to keep a hole open...

    Soil for growing out stock

So what kind of soil does everyone prefer for growing out stock? Do you use your regular bonsai soil? Something more basic & water retentive? I'm looking for growing out prebonsai stage before doing any refinement. This would be for stock in a grow bed, grow box or colander/pond basket.

    Landscape junipers

So when I first designed my garden I wanted evergreens to be dominant because they just are a personal preference for me. So I planted a lot of junipers that have outgrown their space. What would be your plan of attack on these? Prune back to find shape over a year or two, and then collect...

    Walmart Scots Pine

So a couple years ago, I found one local Walmart carrying Scots pines in 1 gallon pots. I bought 5-6 and they are scattered in my landscape. I like the look of the maturing bark on Scots pines. Here is one in a grow box that the roots have escaped into the ground based on the resistance I...

Thuja Yard Waste Site dumpster find...worth it?

So I tend to keep my eye out for recently dug out material at the yard waste site to take home and see if it hasn't been sitting too long to live. Last year (or the year before) I found this Thuja variety laying there, brought it home and threw it into the biggest pot I had. Been in there...

    Dawn Redwoods from seedlings

The story of these redwoods is similar to the larchs I just posted except they were only foot seedlings purchased on ebay. Had a bunch of these, all were the same size last spring. I dug up and replanted all but 2, I believe at the right time but I could have done it a bit late. Most were...

    Black Hills and Colorado Spruce.

Another seedling I got from a nursery. Pretty sure it was Black Hills I got but they also sell White Spruce. This little guy I just plan to let grow a bit, any advice is desired and wanted. The Colorado Spruce has been left to grow unchecked in the ground for awhile, time I try to do...

    Larch from Seedlings

So I have planted these larch from 2' seedlings a few years back and left them on their own. Here's where they are today. Here's the first one. This one I'm thinking I might want to wire a little interest into the trunk while its still small enough to do so. Haven't really thought of a...

Grow beds vs amended ground growing

So I have a couple raised beds I built with the idea that it would be easier to reach the trees in them if I wanted to do any light styling as they are growing out and also because my soil is heavy clay. Having the grow beds only 8-10" boards hasn't raised them off the ground that much so it...
