I see you're flying the W. GO CUBS GO!

    Aphids! Won't go away.

Definitely, and an easy tree to maintain as well.

    Aphids! Won't go away.

I thought briefly about doing something crazy with it, or maybe a cascade. I'll probably trim it though.

    Aphids! Won't go away.

I haven't visited bonsainut in a bit. This is my only surviving bonsai, and it's the Fukien Tea. 2.5 years after the aphid infestation and complete defoliation, here she is. I have had no aphids since.

    Aphids! Won't go away.

Late reply, sorry. Took about a month and a week. New photo below for 2 1/2 years later.

    Sarissa not looking so good.

Sorry, late reply. The Serissa died. I'll never order a bonsai during the fall, or the early spring for that matter, again. I only have a twelve or thirteen-year-old Fukien Tea still alive and doing well.

    Sarissa not looking so good.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to remain optimistic. I have it in a South facing window. Might it be too intense?

    Sarissa not looking so good.

Yes, it does have Holes. Maybe it's just my bad luck, but it has been overcast. I haven' watered it in a week or so amd the soul is still damp from lack of sunlight. The room temp is about 74 degrees f. Unfortunately it is still in bad shape, and fear I will lose it. I hope it bounces back. I've...

    Sarissa not looking so good.

Ah, the other week I fertilized it hoping it would help it bounce back. I forgot it has adverse effects. I'll get a more strict water regement.

    Sarissa not looking so good.

I bought a Serissa a month ago. Every since I recieved it, I've seen it slowly but surley deteriorate in health. I've been letting it dry out between waterings, I have it about 2 feet from a south facing window. Temperature has been back amd forth. Lowest 70 degrees, highest 78, it's that time...

Soil mix for apple bonsai tree

Thanks for all the info. I will look into this. Yes, they were dry. We just got back from vacation and realized I had them on the south facing side the entire time we were gone. I just repotted them in regular potting soil. I'll move them to the east side where it's more open. If you don't mind...

Also, should I start cutting it back now to help the trunk growth?

Thanks for the link, but I'm looking for a recipe to cut down on price.

Soil mix for apple bonsai tree

About a year ago my children and I planted apple seeds from the apple we ate. No idea what kind. One has grown great, the other is stunted and the roots are showing on the surface. I think it will be a great bonsai. I need to know what soil mix would be best. Thanks to any and all.

    Aphids! Won't go away.

I wanted to do one last update on "total defoliation" for aphid control. It's been 7 weeks, zero aphids and a lot of green.

    Aphids! Won't go away.

It's been about a week. I think the Fukien Tea is going to make it. Not an aphid in sight.

    Aphids! Won't go away.

Yes every insecticide I used was for aphids and various other critters. I did indeed drench the plant. I covered the soil out of fear it would hurt the tree. I just couldn't stand those assholes anymore.

    Aphids! Won't go away.

Quick update. Nothing worked. I've tried everything. Mixing soap and alcohol, I bought a few insecticides. If anything I think they enjoyed it because they had an explosion in population. Took sorces advice...Didn't quite burn it though. I completely defoliated the tree and then blasted it with...

Am I overwintering or do I have a greenhouse?

I wasn't aware of this. Great info. I'll get a cover up, does it need to be total blackout? Suggestions on material?

Am I overwintering or do I have a greenhouse?

I have not yet. I finally got the thermometer set up, hanging from the grate. It reads 50 degrees and its currently 49 degrees outside. So I think I may have eliminated the potential greenhouse effect. Also, I didn't clean the clear top so it filters the sun a bit, but still allows my tree to...

Am I overwintering or do I have a greenhouse?

It is very heavy with that metal grate. I had to use my shoulders and arms to lift it. Wind can be pretty nasty though, good point. I'll look into tie downs from the inside somehow and keep a pocket knife in there to cut the tie downs in the event of an emergency. It is an egress window after...

    Bonsai moss?

    Bonsai moss?

Update: Applied moss to Juniper, Fukien Tea and Jade. The Juniper received a full cover. The Fukien Tea received only on the rock and drift wood (hope it works)...and the Jade also received a bit of moss on a décor rock type ornament. Ill keep you posted on anything developments.

Am I overwintering or do I have a greenhouse?

Update: After appropriate adjustments, I hope, my Juniper will overwinter in the window well/egress window. I placed 8 tiles, two thick at the four corners. I'm hoping this will allow the proper airflow and invite the necessary cold inside the window well. I have also added the moss to the...
