Are you attending the Meijer Gardens Michigan All State Bonsai show in Grand Rapids next month:)

A few more… smallish tridents I’ve been growing from seed for four years or so. One of them is basically a whip, but the other one has had root work done and has been chopped low and ready to begin the development process.

    DC Area frost warning

Here in SE MI, we have mid 30's after midnight tonight... with possible snow showers  . Tomorrow night is a possible freeze with lows in the 20's:(💩:rolleyes:. Methinks all the deciduous trees get moved back into the cold room until Thursday AM. The space under the lights will...

    DC Area frost warning

I'll spray the night before right before bed, and as soon as I wake up if it's cold enough... but if there's a chance of frost, I get my good trees under cover the night before.

    When Safe To De-Leaf?

I’ve done it once… branch died… not sure if it was timing or relative branch strength that failed me. If I were to try again, I’d want to use a strong whip towards the top of the tree and I’d do it as soon as leaves are hardened, and definitely before the summer solstice. With that being said...

Are you attending the Meijer Gardens Michigan All State Bonsai show in Grand Rapids next month:)

I've got too many projects and would love to move these on to anyone who has more time to work them. I'll be at the show all weekend and can deliver them there. If interested in any of these, message me and we can discuss price and how to meet up. Thanks. First up is this old Japanese yew I...

Time flies when you're having fun! Started from seed back down in GA maybe 8-9 years ago. This one is pretty much there.... This one is almost there... The tree in the first picture came out of the pot currently holding the tree in the second picture... and the pot in the first picture was...

At what temps should Japanese Maples be shaded?

Right now, my maples are all in full sun from about 9 AM to 7 PM, but once the oak trees on the west side of my yard leaf out in a week or two, they’ll be in that spot of high shade by mid afternoon at the latest.

At what temps should Japanese Maples be shaded?

I suspect high/filtered shade by early afternoon is ideal, regardless of climate, assuming you're wanting those pristine blemish-free fall leaves ala @MACH5. Some kind of wind break is also helpful. I can swing the afternoon shade in my yard but the wind is another story.

What’s your latest Bonsai related purchase?

Yeah, but that 2-door civic gets such great mileage, you can make multiple trips;) and save $$ in the long run!

Too late to get this JM in better soil?

I'd add soil until it's slightly higher than where the first branch leaves the main trunk.

Lime Sulfur safe for maples in leaf or no?

I think your issue is possibly related to either- very heavy soil and overpotting, improper repotting (timing, overaggressive root removal), or improper overwintering. The brown spots on the trunk could be bruises secondary to trauma or due to Pseudomonas syringae... time will tell. Fwiw, I've...
