Here's the cuttings, a bit larger than your average cutting. image.jpgimage.jpg Excavator assisted planting the lower slope, ripper pokes a nice planting hole. image.jpgHand dug on the upper section, nice digging, ice auger works even, well we thought we would try it. Surprisingly it worked, comical really. image.jpgimage.jpg

Nice project. What is the effect of the live pole drain?
In this case it is to stop this little channel from incising deeper into the hillside. When it roots it helps hold the soil. You can also redirect water with them. Sometimes strategically placed pole drains are used to drain slopes that are prone to failure due to overly saturated soils.

This clump of riverbank trees is interesting. In this clump all together we have Rocky Mountain juniper, western red cedar, ponderosa pine, Douglas fir and a subalpine fir. Pretty cool to see all these species that typically have different niches clustered together like that. The subalpine fir is way out of place. The small horizontal rmj in falling into the river just in front of the log there is actually quite good potential bonsai material. image.jpg This shepherdia plant is also interesting... Hmm, we'll see if they jump into the back of the truck while I'm there. image.jpg
