Let's shut the Dori. Who would figure that I would be objecting to playing around with words. One could say I invented the practice but I have alas, been pushed beyond my ability to endure. Not everything associated with bonsai and the collecting of material should, would or could be placed in the catagory with Yamadori as in Hedgeadori, Dugupadori, Crapadori so on and so forth. So I would really like to slamethedori on all of the doris dancing around out there; and tell everyone let's closethedori on all of this unadoriable conversating (another fake word) floating around out there in the universe. The question is; is this turd a floatiadori or does it manifest the characteristics of a Sinkiadori?; and what does that mean?

Maybe we should also add all those to the site rankings. Like first you're a seedling, then a cutting, then a Crapadori, then a Dugupadori, then a Hedgeadori, then you finally attain Yamadori status....after that you die because you didn't get enough roots, and your new title is "deadadori"

Vance, I adori you! However, for the most part collected material falls into two catadoris. Yamadori and landscape material planted by someone at sometime. So, what do we call the second catadori? Landscape Yamadori? I don't know so I really am asking.

God bless you! You've expressed what I'm sure many of us have thought through the years, namely, "please make it stop."

What no more yardadori, storeadori or felonyadori ? :(

I thought those twisted terminologies were actually a titular tendency totally unique to Bonsai-Nut and were pretty cute, the first couple of hundred times I had to read them ...

Ya can't stop it. It's in the culture. And it came from within the culture, it wasn't an outside word brought in, but rather a word that was created from within.

Gosh you experienced old timers sure are crabby these days. Relax, it'll be alright. Let us newbies enjoy the entry in the culture. What's next- Is my pot not proper?

If you are talking about domestic trees run amok I would call them feral trees or wildings. Anything feral is a domestic gone wild and that can be called a wilding but I don't know anyone but me that uses that terminology.

I like feral--in my ongoing discipline not to use adopted bonzo words from now on all things collected that are not "native", are "feral".

A little food for thought.

Colin Lewis posted the following on Facebook: “Last weekend's Noelanders Trophy in Belgium attracted three thousand visitors. They lined up as if it was opening time at the mall on Black Friday. Why do we not see this happen in the USA? Any suggestions?”

Look, I’m with you 100% on the frivolous use of nontraditional words in the bonsai world. However, is it worth losing young followers of the art for the sake of a few misguided words? Young whippersnappers; yes. Future bonsai enthusiasts; we may never get the chance to know.

The Wonderful World of Bonsai as we know it doesn't belong to us. Much like the trees in pots we love so much, we are just the current caretakers of the bonsai way of life. We must guide, encourage and advise those that do not know any better or we risk losing our most valuable commodity; people... Just my thoughts.

It's nice having you visit here Colin. My comments about the use of Yamadori was a joke, I don't really think anyone thought of it differently but I could be wrong and that wouldn't be the first time.

I thought Vances post was meant to be advising, guiding and encouraging.
Maybe even nurturing.

I thought it was as well. :) I hope my additional comment wasn't taken as negative.
Not by me.
And you're right, but jeez it's starting to wear just a wee bit thin.

So is this what happens when northern bonsai junkies get cabin fever?

Yes, I suppose it gets a little boring round here. Might as well have some fun. Can't change it, might as well laugh it off and have a good time.

Hope all the northern BNutters are hanging in there. Along with my koi kichi buddies. Life is for livin! Enjoy the ride!

On a side note: At our last bonsai club meeting I announced that Brian and I have sourced some yamadori and wanted to ask if members wanted to join on some digs. The club pres came up to me afterward and asked what 'yamadori' meant? WTF?????
