Hi, friends. My wife and I recently started pottery classes together, but instead of bowls and mugs, I’ve been making bonsai pots! I’m super happy with how they’ve come out so I’m sharing some pics below.

The first one I made was this flared round with white glaze.

My second pot was this shallow round with green glaze. It came out a bit more shallow than I intended. Things shrink in the kiln! But it will be cool for a moss mound with some grasses as an accent. Or maybe a small tropical literati?

And my latest pot is the one I like the most— a two tone round with an earthy glaze.

All these pots have been on a wheel with maybe one pound or a half pound of clay. I wanna try a bigger pot next time. I also wanna try slab building some other shapes like rectangles and ovals. The pottery studio I’ve been going to also makes trips to a wood fire kiln that I’d love to be a part of someday.

Starting to vertically integrate every part of the bonsai hobby. 😅

Very nice! Love that first one especially. Looks like you are a natural at this!

Super cool about the wood fire - I want to get in on something like that some day too. 😃

Hell of a lot better than my first pots. My biggest issue was getting the walls an even thickness that wasn’t too chunky. Keep it up!

These are sweet, do you have any experience with this? My girlfriend and a few friends have talked about pottery classes a number of times recently, so I'll probably end up at one, and this is my plan as well.

Crazy how much bonsai has opened me up to things I didn't previously care about; I'm so much more interested in pottery, geology, photography, and even birds since getting started.

No experience at all! These have been our first classes ever. But I’m quickly becoming hooked!
