This song is pretty much what happens when I go to nurseries.

Yes I have a problem...

but I digress...

Got these 3, 5 gal shrubs for a dollar each...

Cotoneaster glaucophyllus
some kind of prostrate rosemary
and a third that I need help with an ID.

Nice buys!

And I have always thought I was the only one.
Is it psychosis? obsession? hoarding? or what?
Going nursery shopping with me?
Pack a sack lunch; it is gonna be a while at each.
Each? Yes. If you are going to do it do it right.
Hit at least three, or stay home. Only time I
remember getting my Mother to go "plant
shopping" ended with "when can we go home?
The van is full." "Still room between your ankles"
was my thought at the time. Did I say that? No.
I was only 15 and didn't want to walk home.

I can relate! Ive got a bunch of one and two dollar plants. I like to hit all three nurseries close to me when I go. I have too many fruit trees! Better to have extra than none, right? My problem is there never thick enough and arent sold for bonsai. I fill up the car pretty quick if I find good stuff too. Your not alone in your collecting and hording, it happens to lots of folks! Think I'll go to the nurseries today, y'all inspired me...

I was thinking someone found bonsai pots...lol man was I wrong. Had never expected nursery plants called thrift store purchases, loved your take on it.

Sadly...all my nursery finds when I first started out...have all made it to the landscape. I was on the wall about the last one. And today...sealed the deal, it will be planted in the ground as landscape. It's very inferior and not even a common bonsai species. Allows another space on my bench for better matieral.

Have fun with your purchases...they are never a waisted adventure. Gives you horticulture experience...and if later you decide it's not what you initially want for your bench, your landscape grows in its glory. It's a win/win.

Sounds like my yard! Full of hopefully prebonsai but if not, like your saying, it only makes my yard nicer. My problem is that my yard is about full and someday I will have trees hitting each other or robbing sun from others. Good thing I like green! I just bought a mamo'n chino (local name) tree for five bucks. There no good for bonsai but they sure taste great. All of you up in the north must be ready to hit nurseries and get outside after being so cold. Enjoy it when you can!

Our nursery's are closed at the moment...won't open up until spring. Typically Memorial Day around here.

Yea, I don't see these becoming bonsai. I guess I just can't refuse... Maybe with the thought that I can propagate (which I enjoy as much as anything). Also I just want to see if I can get that Rosemary to live.

It looks like it could be Escallonia. I just happen to be on the hunt for one with a chunky trunk but no luck yet.
