what tree species do you sure in winter. i read junipers are often wired in japan over winter. what are your experiences? its early winter here with temps 40-low 60s. (11b)

Conifers in general.
I do deciduous too, but I've heard it's not a good time for them.

You can add your zone to your profile information which comes in handy when people want to discuss a topic like this that can relate to your zone. I usually do most my wiring on conifers during the fall and winter. There is less pressure because early spring there is a lot more going on.

I do most of my wiring just before I expect a tree to be actively growing. This is based on the assumption that the way you get them to take a set is that when manipulating the branch into a new position it creates small fractures in the wood and as the tree heals those little fractures this new wood tissue conforms to the bends created by the wire.
