The bonsai workshop at Pavement Ends has come and gone. It was an excellent first installment. In spite of torrential downpours, most of which had passed at Pavement Ends but moved on to the Kansas City area (the total number of lightning strikes was extraordinary), three brave souls arrived to do some serious fall work on their trees.

Ciro brought a beautiful Japanese black pine that we will be doing more work on next year (I apologize, I am absolutely not hung over in this photo):

Definitely a Good Time

Ahh yes, It was a good time. Damp and chilly but glad I didn't miss it. I learned more in those 4 or 5 hours than I had in a long time. Especially when it came to pines. Chris pointed out a great new future for the scot's pine I brought and we did a lot of needle plucking. I'm looking forward to the next get together.

Bill

Here are the photos I took of everyone else,

#4 & 6 are Chris and Ciro working on Ciro's Japanese Black Pine.

#3 is Chris and his large spruce.

1, 2, 4 & 5 are Chris & Phil with Phil's Japanese White Pine.

Bill,

I didn't realize you were even taking photographs besides the ones I asked you to take!

It was a fantastic time, wasn't it. There is nothing better than getting together with friends who want to improve their trees.

Chris,

Being new to the forums it appears that I missed your event by only a couple of days! Do you host events like this with any frequency? I'm new to Bonsai and trying to learn as much as I can. Living in Columbia, I think I'll be able to travel to events in both KC and STL.

Looks like you guys have some beautiful trees in the works. I hope to meet you all at some future event.

Wow, you did miss us by just a bit! I hope to have events like this either at my home or at other participants' homes 4 or 5 times per year, doing seasonal work in season. Kind of a study group, if you will. You are welcome any time.

This weekend, the Bonsai Society of Greater Kansas City is having a Beginner's workshop on winter care. http://www.bonsaisocietyofgkc.org/schedule 07.htm

I hope to see you there! PM me if you would like directions.

That is in regards to the weather conditions Chris..
I had Texas Gully washes with my workshops.
Irene

Now I understand! It is the truly dedicated who show up for those things!

Lighting is a problem right now...I have four double lamp flourescent fixtures on the ceiling, each one seven feet long! The ceiling is 12 feet up, so when I got up high enough to replace the lamps, of course it turned out it was the fixtures! I have one working, so that's good enough if the door is closed LOL.

Heat for the February get together (if it's at Pavement Ends) will come from some kerosene heaters I picked up at a local auction. There is a propane furnace in the shop, but that will wait for a qualified HVAC guy or plumber to repair. Lots of things were allowed to fall apart in the last 30 years!

A likely story ;)

Good to see you passing on the good word of Boon Chris. Its people like yourself that share what they have learned from master/teachers that will help elevate bonsai here in the US. Well done!

Chris,

I took just those few pix. Notice that neither my tree or myself appear in any photos. When people ask about this when it happens at home or other events, I just say, "The government frowns on witnesses in protection being photographed." LOL
