I'm lucky to live near a bonsai nursery, Muranaka Bonsai. Most of the stuff they sell is pre-bonsai and grown in the ground. I'm sure there are nurseries that have more stock, but not a nicer staff! (Actually, a staff of two, George, the owner and his dad that started the business). They often sell stuff on e-bay under the name mbn1978.

If you are ever in the area east of Seattle, Flower World in Maltby, WA is worth a side trip.
They have a meager selection of bonsai, pots & supplies but an incredible selection of all
kinds of trees in 1 gallon-up pots. Best prices in the area for garden trees and plants.

"Japan bonsai", tak yamaura is the owner, he is known for his work and they are one of the biggest. field and fields of bonsai, finished and prebonsai, all your sullplies and pots and soils.
another is "Brookswood nurery" a lot there too the lady there does bonsai and the nursery is sortof overgrown and things are hidden everywhere which is good because plants that havent been repotted are hidden and good for bonsai :) and they r REALLY cheap

I was talking to George at the BSBF Convention and he said that all of their pines (and for all I know, all of their stock) comes from seed. No grafts.

Favorite nursery = The one I like best out of the ones I've been to.

I gotta say it's this little one in Hartville, Ohio...
Oh! I'll be....it's MINE!

But then again, Kimura's, Kato's and a few others weren't bad either!;)

And layers. There were a ton of layers happening when I stopped in for a visit.
