Ok, I will be the first to add thier own Juniper to here....

A Rocky Mountain Juniper.... Hieght is about 42" tall with about a 48" canopy. Trunk is about 18" at the soil line and wider as you go down to the final soil level. Tons of deadwood which is hard to tell since the trunk is wet in the picture. Walter and I will be developing this over the coming years. I am going to document every step of the way and maybe it will make it to print in one form or another when it is finished.

A very powerful, impressive old juniper with lots of movement and deadwood.

Enjoy,

Jason

Jason, Nice find. I don't think I've ever seen such a credible nebari on a juniper! Your contribution to this site adds some class.

That must have been one heck of a load

Whoever carried that one out deserves a medal as I know that one was nowhere near the road. The good ones never are. Ya'll take it easy on your backs, we want you to be able to keep doing this stuff in the future.

I definitely have to agree!! Very nice for sure Jason. When was this tree collected?
I look forward to its development.

<in my best german accent> We have ways to make you talk

I wouldn't tell either Jason. Those are treasures on the scale of King Solomans mine. I have a spot for a plethera of 60 year old Taxus baccata that the deer have kept pruned back. It would take more than bamboo shoots under the fingernails to make me reveal:)

However, I do believe I'll be calling in the near future to do some business with you.

Hi John,

Thanks! This tree was collected this fall, 2006, and came out with a great root pad. I am not worried in the least about its survival. I know that it will do very well.

Hey Tom,

I look forward to your call and working together in the future!! And, You can't make me reveal the secret location, :D

Hi Zelk,

Carving on the deadwood will start this coming spring. Right now I need to brush up on the carving skills before I tackle this tree.... Thanks!

Absolutly an awesome piece of material. This will make a fine example of bonsai. I think this is the kind of material that will need to be exploited if ever America wants to move in a different direction in the world bonsai artistic movement. Sticks in pots is just not going to get it.

I mean "exploited" in the best way possible as far as bonsai.

Cheers, Al

having recently seen this tree in person, I can tell you, it's even more impressive than the pictures suggest.

I've purchased a half dozen trees from oregon bonsai already, these guys are top notch.

Thanks for the good words on my juniper everyone!!! And thank you Bob for the kind words!!! I hope you don't expect a deal, lol!!

Like Bob said, the pictures just don't do the tree any justice. It is an absolute monster!!

My plan is as follows.... Working with Walter Pall over the next 5-7 yrs we plan to make this the most powerful RMJ in America. Not the best because there are some very good ones here, but this is a very powerful tree and can be one of the best. I have had other bonsai "Masters" look at this tree in awe of it's power and potential. Walter and I picked this out as a project that I can learn from him and we can works side by side on it.
My goal was to find a juniper that I can work on and develop over the years with Walter and I think we found the right tree for the project.....

Now, the patience is killing me!!!

Jason

Oh, and this wasn't on the website because there isn't any way I would think about shipping a tree of this size!!! You want a tree this big you ahve to come and get it. We have several!!!

AH Yess, patience is the issue. Patience may kill you but lack of it could kill the tree. Any idea of how much of that trunk is living tissue and how much is dead wood?

Hi Vance, I would say that about 50% of the trunk has live wood. A nice wide strip on the outsides of the trunk with the midlle section dead. You can see the hole in the trunk about 8" off the soil line. The flare of the trunk is about 8" wider that what you see here once I scrape the soil away. It is potted deep in that grow box.

Hi Art, Yes you need to get out here... you live so close but never come out. We do not have a mini version of this tree but we have lots of other rmj that you might like.... Get ahold of me and lets get you out here.

Dwight, et al,

I had the great good fortune to see this tree in person when I went down and visited Jason a month ago. Truly awesome, and at that time it looked to be in excellent health. Hopefully Jason will confirm that it still is.
