I was on the waiting list to get one of these for quite sometime.
It is a Caitlin Contorted Elm from Brent over at Evergreen Gardenworks.
It's deff. not much right now, and has a very long way to go....but I wanted to share it with you all.

A rooted cutting I am guessing? How fast do they grow? Good luck with it..... I look forward to seeing what you do with it in the future....

Yes, this is a 2 year old rooted cutting. They are extremely slow growing elms. As for now my fingers are crossed that I keep it alive threw winter.

Emk...I appreciate your response, that I would need more than my fingers crossed. But I'm not a newb in this game. I already know what direction I'm headed. :D

Yeah, I was just yankin' yer chain. The tree looks like a really interesting species. Best of luck with training it up into wonderful bonsai material!

Why thank you. I will need some luck on my side. As this is a rare Ulmus, I'd hate to lose over winter. I'm in the process of hardening it off right now. After its hardened off, I planned on overwintering it a mini fridge. I talked to Brent about this method and he said that he doesn't see a problem overwintering it that way. I still haven't decided if thats exactly how I'm gonna winter it or try my best with it outside. We have a small storage type shed thats attached on the backside of our garage...and I thought about moving it in there when the temps get below 30. Its not heated but deff warmer than the outside air temp. Prolly a ten to fifteen degree difference. I'm not sure what way I'm gonna go yet. Any thoughts???
