It stands about 5.5 inches from the pot rim. The pot was made many years ago by California potter Cal Garton.
This olive was once part of a group of 5 belonging to a friend. I saw this one in the group and made my friend an offer he couldn't refuse. This was about 6 years ago. I removed it from the group and started shohin training.

It reminds me of the historic olive grove in our county. The grove was planted during the goldrush and has an old stacked stone wall running along it. Your pot expresses the essence of the wall.

Irene, measuring width of the base at the current front comes out to 2 inches. The circumference at the base is 7 inches which gives a diameter of about 2.23 inches. Short and stout like a sumo wrestler.
You should be able to grow olives down your way. Get in touch with Al Keppler in the Fresno area. Maybe he could ship one to you.

I like it. The tree has a great future.
But the pot doesn't go with the tree.

Can't believe that you don't have them in the dry parts of Texas. They would grow like weed over there.
We have orchards who will not sell trees down here and finding those that do have olives is pretty rare...We have grape/wine more than olives for some reason...
Hill country looks more like napa valley now days.

I have to agree, I am not crazy about the pot that it is currently in. Maybe it is just my old-style preferences. A shallow glazed oval pot might look nice based on the pic you posted. It could be great with the perfect pot.
