The way things are with the new system you cannot edit any post that is more than five minutes or so old. You cannot come back tomorrow discovering you made a mistake and change it. SOOOOOOO-----it would seem you have to get it right the first time or live with the consequences.

Why would you want to edit a post of 1 year ago??
You can always quote and add something if you want

It's for my thread "A Question for Vance Wood." As new information is revealed concerning the Mugo pine, I want to add it to the list in my original post. Now I am unable to do that, and readers will have to scour the thread, and other threads, for additional info. :/

You can reply to that original post of yours OR you can, for example, highlight the list you have earlier in the thiread, then hover your cursor over that and click the reply flag that magically appears when you do that. Then add you new stuff in the new post that has everything in one place. EZPZ.

I understand all that, but that puts the info at the back of the thread. It's much easier for readers to pull up the thread, and read the post with edits, instead of having to search through the whole thread looking for updates. I understand there's nothing to be done about it, but it's frustrating. Anyhoo...

Actually it is much the opposite. When a post shows in the new posts list, clicking that item takes the viewer to the first post since they last read that thread (or marked all posts read). Users that actively read the thread will be taken automatically to the latest post.

Up there on the menu bar ...
A little button labelled 'New Posts'.
Click it.

Thats only usefull when you see it in the new section and one has already read everything, otherwise it will bring you to the first post since you last visited the thread. For someone new who wants info on mugo, he will need to read everying and hope he dont miss. it would be better if he can edit/update his first post and keep a clean overview.
But i guess its not possible.

I agree with Lazylightening. It would be much better for a thread/post like that to be able to be updated in the top post so people dont have to scroll down/flip pages to get the latest info. You can always bump to make people aware of the edits.

I have found that if I make a post on my desktop, it cant be edited with my phone and vice versa. The forums seem to only allow that ability with one device or maybe Im hitting the time limit.
Often the phone does typos that I dont catch until later. Kind of annoying to not be able to edit them.
