Last week, I organized a two day bonsai seminar for students at the middle school where I teach. George Muranaka of Muranaka Bonsai was our demonstrator/mentor. The students were pretty excited. The first photo shows them transfering the trees from nursery containers to bonsai pots. They also did some moderate triming. Overall, I think most the trees will survive if they remember to water them! (George promised them if their tree lived for a year and they brought it to his nursery he'd give them an additional one for free!... I don't think he included me in that deal).

That is fan-freakin-tabulous barry! I'm sure quite a few others would agree that they wish they'd been exposed to bonsai at a much earlier age. I barely noticed any kind of plants/trees/flowers until I started working at a greenhouse as part of my job three years ago.

Good for the kids. Good for bonsai. Good for you!

I did a similar session with my wife's 6th grade class several years ago. They all had alot of fun, but I don't think any of the trees lasted very long.

That is an EXCELLENT idea. It has gotten the wheels turning for all kinds of kid events that I am involved in. Don't know why I never considered it. Thanks for sharing!

Three of the students attended last year's seminar. Two claimed that last year's tree was still alive.
