I came across this short video from Wayne Schoech's (Stone Lantern) website Bonsai Bark. Richard Lantz was awarded a honorable mention for an Art Contest organized by Wayne.

Here is the link to his video:

It is not strictly about bonsai, but rather a reflection on human society. Bonsai is only used as a metaphor, but it can cause us, bonsaists, to reflect on what we are doing. So, for us, it has double meaning.

Here is a quote from the site, talking about the video:

The stylized and controlled changes that happen to the trees mirror social constraints Lantz sees reflected in society. Addressing the terror that comes with the loss of dreams, this work instead aims to recall the aggression and self-will of the individual and diminutive tree.

To me, the final frame of the video is really telling: the bonsai becomes the image of a monster, tied down by wires. A sinister and haunting vision of evil, caused by the loss of freedom and abandoned dreams.

Great art, if you ask me. Very stimulating and thought provoking.

This is interesting. Bonsai, in a symbolic sense, can represent the beauty and sarcredness of nature, and representation of our most revered ideals. It can be a subject of contemplation.
But, as Richard's art shows, bonsai can also be the symbol of deprivation, enslavement, and struggle for freedom. The image of hopelessness and tyranny.

We never thought this is possible, but Voila.

In a strange way, this also applies to the 9/11 thread, and the strong emotional response to this event.

So, you don't like it?:)
The man just has a different perspective..
I never said that...

his/your message quite clear, for those informed.;)

I believe it was directed more towards your closing argument, nothing more.

I am reminded of a famous saying from Yul Brenner in an old movie <<so it is written, so it shall be done>> ... a different meaning in the movie perhaps but definitely appropriate for the times, wouldn't you say?

Got it.
I misunderstood you, initially.
