Since I've had Ponderosa here for four years and they seem to do just fine, I thought it was time I had a nice one. I bought this one from Colin Lewis who bought it from Andy Smith at Golden Arrow Bonsai. Colin is responsible for all the very nice work done on this tree, something I couldn't have done. It's in a Tokonama pot. I have shown pictures of it to some friends , some liked it others weren't to fond of the fat trunk. Fine with me, I appreciate their honesty, after all I bought it for myself. It's 29" overall and 19" tall.

keep it green,
Harry

I'm a big fan of Ponderosa and really like this tree. Looks very healthy with full foliage.

Nice tree, Harry. I love Ponderosa as well.

Question: the tree seems full indeed. Will you cut some of the the old needles this fall?

What ever Coplin Lewis recommends to get started in my climate.

When you get it into the appropriate semi-cascade pot it will be a keeper. I like it, just not in that pot.

I like the tree and the trunk. I HATE the pot. It makes trunk look funny. Needs to be at least as deep as the trunk is wide, twice as deep would be great--square would be better to contain the trunk's heavy image.

I agree- square semi cascade pot, but it is still a very nice ponderosa with dense needles.

Great tree. So-so pot. With the right pot, an even greater tree!

As most of you know, you don't have a choice with Ponderosa as to the shape of the pot sometimes. They tend to grow one long major root which dictates the pot shape and where you can put the tree in the pot. So we'll see.

Certainly initially, though over time you should be able to shape the roots as you need to.

It never hurts to get some advice from an artist or master and in my case have a master style my trees.

It's certainly well on it's way to turning Japanese.

I favour a crescent cascade pot and the name of Droopy.
