This has been a very fun project.
The first picture shows a Trident maple that some (including me) might consider quite a styling challenge. Going through the drill of considering all views and angles (2nd pic), it was decided to style it as a cascade, or semi-cascade.
The 3rd picture shows the first step in changing the planting angle.
The 4th picture is a year later. We had good success changing the angle and maintaining great root mass.
5th picture shows the tree in it's first bonsai pot. The planting angle may be changed a bit in the future.

I'd cut that thing in two. It is two trees, one a cascade, the other an informal upright--or possibly two informal uprights.

Both could be used in a planting together...

I was thinking the same thing - the horseshoe shape might make styling it as one tree a bit difficult. I think you have really great options if you separate them.

Two trees for the price of one!

I'd split that sucker :) Look at the two individual trunk lines and the taper. They'd be awesome!

This is indeed a very unique trident maple. I would work on a semi-cascade. By the way did you buy the tree frrom WeeTree in Oregon. Just curious.

Very interesting material. For my two cents, I would split him in half too.

I would love to see where you take this guy!

I tend to agree with Mark. I like the material although it was a bit daunting in the first photo. I like what you have done with it but the last pic in particular shows two great trees or one pretty good to great tree.

On the other hand, it's certainly unique as you have it right now. I'd love to see larger photos of it from several angles.

Great work so far on this one!
