Pigletts Progress

Everyone has differing opinions as it should be. I guess if the object is to show it at a high level, then to some extent the opinions of whatever judging yardstick is being used is the important one. As I don't display my trees on stands except for showing, then that for me is the important criteria.

If I were to give an opinion on that table/tree pairing, I would add a couple inches to the leg height. That tree is so tall, that I wouldn't go much higher though.

But clearly the table is perfect for the tree in this instance as it won the day. Personal satisfaction is important, but is not the only consideration if showing is part of the goal.

In the case of this big trident, it's more massive than tall. So if I get this right, that means the table needs to be heavier, fairly simple and medium height.

and my reasons why....

First I like asymmetrical.
I like trunks on trees to emerge from the soil at an angle. An emerging trunk at an angle is less formal and allows more freedom in branch structure.
I like the way the trunk falls into subtrunks quicker in this view. It is much more grounded and powerful when it shows trunks asymmetrically from a lower point.
I think tilting the tree to the left would help bury the left root some and also add a little more tilt to the tree. With some more branch structure on the left side would put this tree into iconic territory.

I appreciate very much your work to post the images here, thank you Al.
I am going to look at this in person from your chosen side when I'm with the tree tomorrow. Thanks for your thoughts and explanations. Very appreciated.

Kind of a crappy virt of some foliage and the tree tilted more to the left and the soil covering the root more.

Will watch how you work on this over the next few years. Very interesting tree.

Heyy! Were both Don B.! Awesome tree !!

EDIT: My bad. Just realized who's tree this actually is.

Man...that is time consuming crap right there. Four hours later and you feel you only wired half the tree.
