What to do about thieves?

Fertilizer thieves to be more specific. I have been using organic fertilizer for several years, I think it works great when it hasn't gone missing. What can i do to keep things off of my fertilizer? I really don't want to switch to inorganic for several reasons( don't want to debate that here). One main reason being this is what I already have and don't want it to go to waste. Just wanted to know what any of you guys here do to keep the critters off the fertilizer. I could try just putting piles of it on the soil surface but, I have already found trees dug up laying on the ground. squirrels maybe? either way what do you organic fertilizer people do to keep pests away?
thank you

I've had a lot of luck with OOF. I don't know why, but the fertilizer thieves seem to leave it alone. Ever given it a try?

Try adding some hot pepper: red pepper flakes or cayenne powder. Mammals are sensitive to capsecin (no idea of the spelling), the ingredient that burns your tongue and makes my head sweat. It doesn't bother birds, and that's why some companies (Wild Birds Unlimited, for example) coat some of their seeds with pepper. Squirrels, chipmunks, and even raccoons will leave the stuff alone. I've sprinkled hot pepper flakes on my soil and on top of my fertilizer tea-bags this year, and so far, I haven't had a problem.
But -- it's early in the season.

Maybe disolve the fert in water and dunk the plants? I do this sometimes, but it gets tiresome when you have lots of plants

I was thinking from the title it was going to be about 2 legged thieves.
I imagine one of these would work on the 4 legged kind too.View attachment 135668

Mike...My daughter is dead set on a German Shepard!

She said, "I saw one bite a guys finger off!"

I don't think I'll be getting out of it!

Nice!

She also said, "I don't like milk or fish, so I'm not a cat person"! Lol!

Where the hell did she see that? Christ!
They're great dogs but she has to put the time in.
You just can't let them bite dudes fingers off willy nilly.
You train them to do it on command. Or other parts. Whatever they get a hold of.
If you're serious about getting one do some searching for a good one. And there are diffent kinds. Ruperts dad is a K9 officer. Theyre called working line dogs. That kind ,like Rupert aren't huge but very smart and tightly wound. They have a serious prey drive. That means they're chasers. They also have the flight instinct bred out, they only have the fight instinct. Im sure youve seen videos of cops where they barely have control of the dog. And they have a high tolerance to pain. Rupert was running around in casts for the better part of his first 6 months and he never once yelped or cried about it. He just took it.
There are also regular German Shepherd dogs. Great family dogs. A little more laid back. Protective and loyal companions. I can't think of a better animal for your daughters first dog. Easily trained. Gentle. And you will find out if you do get one how lovey they are. 80 lb lap dogs if you let them.

Watching "puppy videos" on YouTube!

It'll be a couple years....

She has had all the "flight" bred out of her too so...!

I think they'll all be big enough to deal with a little "fight"!

I don't know if Monkey would remain "boss dog", but if he does, it'll be a nice help for "attitude".
And he really needs a friend!

Monkey would still be boss dog. He's already there in the pack. Higher up.
