OK, so I know it's a skinny little guy, but it gets some style points, no? And I know the leaves are WAY big, but it's changing color so it's still cool...
Just thought I'd share.

Looks like a nice little display for a bit in your home, very nice. Will you bring the larch in when it gets its fall colors? Do you have any maples?

Thanks, it's no tokonoma, but it's the best I can do. At least I get to bring the tree of the day in...

My larch has already dropped most of it's needles, it's been soooo rainy, I think it just gave up for the year.
Yep have some maples, the same thing with the Jgreen maple, it's already gone for the year. Waiting on the tridents...
We get first frost this weekend, so I'm moving some stuff to the greenhouse today.

Oh interesting, my stuff hasn't really started showing signs of fall yet. Getting there I guess though. It does look like it is going to get a little colder here this weekend but no frost I don't think.

Ginkos in the fall are the best. Great little tree you have there!

Hi Judy

I recently potted one only slightly less skinny with just the fall colour in mind.....so I think it's lovely!:D

Had a bit of a scare because for some reason all except 2 new leaves withered and died, but it's seems the emergency 1st aid worked, it's pushing new leaves!

Thought I'd place a current fall color shot in this thread. It looks to be the end of the color, it will probably drop all it's leaves in the next couple of days.

It's a slow tree, but I've got it in such a small pot, it's expected. I've had this tree for 5 ish years? Yes the roots are a large part of the charm of this one.

The problem with ginkgoes is that they're lazy, and if it can sustain itself on spurs of several leaves, it will take your lifetime to get those spurs to become branches. The tree is boring above the first branch, so why not chop it back and force it to respond by growing harder? This is an interesting start, in my eye. Chop it hard, and wire some movement into that new leader. Make it grow.

I understand Brian's point of view, but I wouldn't go that far, I'd chop it after the second branch.

Or leave ist as it is, more or less, but plant it in a wider pot to aim at a "flame" Ginkgo.

@JudyB would you believe me if I said every single time I see a ginko tree I think of your little tree pictured above? Don't know why but it's burned into my memory, from a different post, Remember you saying a friend called it "silly" or something. Left an impression on me. Treat her good (the tree, not your friend).

I think photo's of 2D "never" so the fluid gentle curves well of a trunk. That said...what curves I see...in my minds eye I see more hidden. So I don't see chopping it back at all. I'm sure your chop of the trunk is enough.

Nice curvy G. Really depends on what type of tree you want it to be. Now it looks feminine and cute.

I chopped it above the third branch earlier today. While I like Brian's suggestion, I also like the whimsical presentation this tree in this ridiculous form has. It's certainly not for everyone, but it also is something different to look at on a bench. It was far too tall for itself though, with no taper, so off with (part of) it's head!
