I just wanted to say thanx to Don blackmond of gregory beach bonsai. Who has always been available to answer any questions I have ever thrown at him. I know yesterday was superbowl Sunday but I finally had some time (kids napping/weekend)to get some repotting started. I have a rather large trident which was purchased from gregory beach maybe a little over a year and a half ago. I enlisted vic of erin bonsai make a pot for the tree. It was time. The tree had been in a 15x11.5x4 square mica pot. The tree was removed and the roots were pruned. I tried placing the tree in the erin pot. It was a no go. The erin pot was much smaller at 10x6x2. So I tried removing some root mass with a reciprocating saw. I still could not get it to fit. So I repotted back into the mica pot and emailed Don Blackmond of gregory beach bonsai. He recommended using a larger blade and making a flat cut taking as much off as I need to make it fit while still leaving some roots. I enlisted my fathers ban saw. Wow that was painless. Here are some pics. I will add more once the tree is trimmed and wired.

Are you really going to make a triangle maple tree?
I really like that trunk by the way. It would look nice under a mature, rounded crown.

I have purchased more than a dozen bonsai from Don, and all quality trees. However I find his trees a bit pricey. He is a great vendor. The only other vendor I trust is Guy Guidry in Louisiana. They are both quality people.

Just trying to give an idea of what I was going to remove. This is what I am looking for and I agree with the rounded crown.
