I thought I would share the new trident I recently purchased. It's 30" tall and has a 6" trunk, and man is it heavy! 65 lbs! I'm looking forward to spring and working this monster!

Where did you get it? Great tree, complete with great trunk movement and branching! It would be nice to see it without the moss around the nebari. If it were mine, I might be tempted to make it even 1/4 shorter (at least it would be a little lighter!).

The tree came from Guy Guidry. He listed it on ebay and I made him an offer. I got it for about 60% of retail.

Nice taper! There doesn't seem to be much to dislike on this tree. It will be fun to work on ramification. Beautiful. Can you show it to us again when in leaf or bud break?

base

Here's a shot of the base cleaned up a bit. I'll post a better picture when it leafs out and I move it out of the greenhouse.

lovely tree for sure, i think barry is right about bringing it dawn in height by bit, there is a little reverse taper just at the 1/4 way down point, but it would make for a great sister tree next to it, a parent and sibling sort of thing. and to bring it down just slightly and rebuilding the apex will make it brilliant.

not that it isnt alreay it is a very nice tree, i do like it a lot and if i could grow maples i would be proud to have it in my collection :)

I agree with Barry, too. This tree is trained into a pine tree shape. That's just not natural for maples. It should have a more rounded crown -- almost wider than tall.

Thanks guys.
The picture shows a lot of reverse taper due to a branch but it's very slight in person, easily corrected without trunk chopping. I have a trident with a dome top so I was looking for something different. She already has a sibling too ;)

jamie11,
Where are you located? Tridents are bullet proof in most areas!
