When you are visiting BonsaiNut, in what screen resolution do you view the site? (If you view the site in windowed mode, estimate the approximate width with which you feel most comfortable viewing the site)

It depends on which computer I'm on. ;)

I have one HD widescreen panel and one 19" panel.

I agree with Mojosan. However I find myself on the 1920 x 1080 LCD a lot. It is the ONLY way to view images on the forums.....really shows detail over other monitors

I am considering changing the front page to better organize content. I initially designed the site assuming an 800 pixel screen width as the lowest common denominator. However I may move up to 1024 in order to lay things out a little differently. Note that the current layout allows for WIDER screen widths - the 800 pixels define the point at which the screen begins to scroll.

Hmm, this is very interesting to me. I'm in web development and have never see that kind of percentage of respondents at 1920x1080. What kind of monitor size are you at for that resolution?

As far as the design, I think it's fairly safe to go to a 960px minimum width.

1024 here on my Linux machine. Accurate calibration of graphics cards seems to a a hit-or-miss proposition with Ubuntu Linux.

Vizio 26". 1900 x 1200 native resolution. 2 x GeForce GTX 285 in Sli.

For what it's worth, prices have come down so much it's ridiculous. You can buy a 22" Viewsonic 1080p at CostCo right now for $179.99.

Yeah, I have a 22 inch monitor at home. At work, I run dual monitors because it's nice to have two separate screens. I don't run above 1600 resolution on either though. I'll have to see what 1920x1080 looks like on my monitor at home, although I would imagine it makes text pretty small.

I agree, 1920 x 1080 seem very high to me. First thought was people must be using laptops, but now I realize they must be on the new flat/wide monitors. I still run mine at 800x600 (older flat screen /CTR ). I set it to the 1920 x 1080 last night just to see how it looks. Too small for me and very intense, hurt my eyes. I thought most web sites had moved from the 800x600 to the 1024x768 as standard ? subnet rx, is that correct ?

Have A Great Day!

According to my research and stats, yes.

1680x1050 here at home with a 21" flat screen monitor.

This is what I have my 22" on.

I guess the way to think about it is that 1900 width on a 26" monitor is very close to 1024 width on a 15" monitor (because the monitors are measured on the diagonal). So if you like the way your screen looks at 1024 width on a 15" monitor, you would notice no difference in text size moving to a 26" screen and 1900 width - there would just be more on the screen at once.

I can easily open two applications at once and work on them side by side, or for that matter, read a document with two pages open simultaneously (like reading a book). Of course, if I ever want to increase text size, I can always just hold down the "ctrl" key and use the wheel on my mouse to increase or decrease it on the fly (without changing screen resolution).

Try it! :)

The benefit would be the ability to view large images while at the same time having larger and more legible type.

We had the touchscreens monitors at work for entering productivity data, last i saw of them was the dumpster.

The early forms came as a small module, programmable with machine specific data via a laptop, these had a glass lamination and over several years three were broken.

These are not made anymore so when this last refurbished screen gives up the ghost the 100 thousand £ machine is for the scrap yard.

Yeah, I guess the surprising thing is that so many in here have monitors that are bigger than 22 inches. 1680 is fine on my 22, and I just prefer dual-monitor when I need to run applications side-by-side. These poll numbers are just way off from any stats that I have, so they are definitely out of the ordinary. I show only 1% of my visitors running a resolution over 1900.
