A tree i would like identified...
I can name almost deciduous tree (to the genus at least), but not so good with tropicals
my guess was some type of ficus, but I could be wrong...

Yes it is a ficus, I think it is a Ficus benjamina. Looks like you have some good branching to work with.

thats what i thought, but i have a benjamin fig I'm working on, but the leaves are about 2-3x bigger

its a ficus benjamina cultivar, could be a 'to little'.

There are several dwarf cultivars. Too Little like you have already hear, Kiki, and Riyan. If it is real brittle it is probabley Riyan.
