This was the 1st Juniper Squamatta that i purchased. It has been very neglected. I put it in the ground and had planned to keep it there for as long as possible to thicken it up, however i have to move house now so i put it in the largest pot i could find.

Update: I had left this untouched until today. I was going to let it grow another year untouched but I got itchy fingers. I still have to shape it more but it got dark out.

So with roughly 4 years of grow in a pot it went from this

Now hopefully it survives the drastic haircut.

You can get it chopping up trees,
You can get it any old how...
... matter of fact, I got it now...! 🍻🍺🍻

That really looks like a hard earned thirst so enjoy that big cold beer.
Nice patience to wait that long!
👍

Whelp, guess what's happening to some pathetic junipers that I have the first chance I get to repot? That is some serious improvement/growth in 4 years!

I don't know, Beaner, it looked to me like a really natural cascade. I like what you've done, but why not cascade?

Most junipers here are sold in that form as it seems to be their natural growth pattern. I like the potential on this one.

The dog seems unamused by your antics. And is that a Portuguese water dog?

@Beanwagon nice work. I would like to see more pictures of all sides of your juniper.

Is this the extent of the foliage reduction prior to root work?
I like how you've left strong areas that need thinning.
I think the 2nd branch on the right and other areas too I'm sure could breathe a little more
underneath come Spring, but really like how you've gone about this so far other than doing shari in November.

Beaner is an infrequent poster.... I like his stuff.
My thought on cascade trees is that they are like bunjin trees, in that it can be very difficult to pull off convincingly, and for some reason newbies love to try a cascade.....I did......failed.

My view on cascade now that I've failed.....the material must really really really lend itself to that style.....otherwise I'm going up!

To be honest I didnt even consider it. Although I do not think it would be hard to redirect growth and turn this into one if I decided to.
