African Sumac, Willow Rhus, Karee - Searsia lancea OUCH!

I read up on African Sumac and came to believe they produce the same oil as Poison Oak which does not bother me the least...
Well I trimmed two small ones on Saturday and discovered this Sunday -

It did swell but does not itch or burn, just looks nasty in person. I guess I finally found a plant I will use gloves for :oops:

Rough stuff! I can remember hiking a multi-day trip, and reading that the area had poison sumac. My buddy and me were super aware when traveling through the bush, that could really ruin your weekend! That tree will keep you on your guard.

I agree but as little as five years ago I grew not only Sumac but Poison Ivy and Oak in hanging baskets for giggles and it never gave me any problems as I am not allergic... Must be this variety is different and has taught me to handle it with caution :rolleyes:
