Every year at our show, I set up a shohin display on our registration table, we have everybody sign up just so we know how many people visited our show. I lost one of my shohin junipers last year that I used in my display, so I was thinking about replacing it with this shohin JBP, so what do you B-nutters think, should I buy this shohin JBP, of look for another Juniper ?

keep it green,
Harry

Harry, that is one SWEET little pine! I would never tell anyone to buy a tree but if this is an option,it's a good one.

Thanks Gary, here is a picture of my shohin display, minus the kotobuki on the right. This was two years ago, the other JBP's look a lot better now, The juniper I lost is in the lower left hand corner, it was a little big anyway.

keep it green,

The tree is a prize.. I am quite certain it costs a minor fortune... but it's just money right? :D

What happened to the juniper?

Harry, sorry to hear about the juni. As for the pine, make sure you order in time to have it for marco's annual visit;) I'm sure you could kill a few hours next to the pond with a nice single malt and that little beauty.

Pine all the way. That is a special little tree.

When you say "lost" the juniper...not that one way is better than the other, but I certainly hope it wasn't stolen...?

It was extremely hot last year and I think I just didn't water it enough, another of my dumb mistakes. Someday, you would think I would learn. All the rest survived.

Marco has come and gone, I take care of most of my JBP's and he works on the junipers. He's here at the wrong time of year to do very much to the pines.

A nice twisty shohin juniper would look great in your display, but that pine is irresistible... I vote for both.

I haven't checked, but they are usually more expensive.

Happens to the best of us... can't beat one's self up about it... maybe a humidity table and shade clouth might be useful for the little darlins'... shohin and mame can be very touchy about the heat.

I've been known to take my smallest tree to work when it's the hottest so I can keep an eye on it. But my hottest and your hottest are two different animals... yours is so much worse. :(

Kindest regards,

Victrinia

Looks like a liberal leaning bonsai tree to me... Be careful, Harry, people might start thinking you are some kind of treehugger.;)

It's surprising to see one you conservative types into bonsai. I thought you guys liked spending your time at monster truck rallies and gun shows or telling people who they can and cannot marry while counting your money. Oh well, I learn something new everyday.

Looks like a great little JBP, man. Sorry to hear about your Juniper:(

Peace

That would have been the old days, I too old now to really care.

Extremely nice little pine Harry. Wheres it coming from?

"I thought you guys liked spending your time at monster truck rallies and gun shows or telling people who they can and cannot marry while counting your money. Oh well, I learn something new everyday."

You kidding? Ask how many people here hunt or fish (or attend truck rallies, or tractor pulls:D )...outdoor sports are a big "entry point" for bonsai. Appreciation of the outdoors and the natural world appeals to hunters, fishermen and bonsaiists alike. I learned how to ID tree species in the woods long before I got interested in bonsai...
