Blaming winter boredom, and a really slow day at work, I ordered a Japanese Quince from Brussel's. Free shipping and a discount coupon contributed to my weakness. Here is my dilemma. It will arrive tomorrow and I am uncertain if I should bring it in, under the lights, or put it in the garage, with the azaleas. It's pretty mild here right now (50), but we have a full month of winter left. It will probably be two months before it will be safe for everything to go outside. I'm sure this tree came from a greenhouse, so what to do?

Keep it inside. That was told to me when I bought a wisteria that came from California. For this winter.

I now winter with rest. But when it arrived it was kepted indoors.
That was the direction I was leaning towards. Like I said, I'm sure it's coming from a greenhouse. Thanks!

Put it with your sheltered plants in the garage, attic or such. Just don't let it get exposed to freezing or frost this year and put it out as soon as any danger has passed. Next year outside it is!

Unless we get another severe cold snap, like we had this past December, the garage will stay easily above freezing. I was just worried about it coming from a greenhouse then being put back out into the cold.

They need chill time, just do it slowly, like in the garage ;) It won't be enough next year but for now provide an "ok" transition.

This title reminds me of a song.....
Lol, I never would have pegged you as a Brittney Spears fan. ;) I figured a catchy title might get me more replies than "Japanese Quince".

I'm dying to order trees!! I really need to build benches first, gotta stay focused!

Oh! And, Carol the trees you sent are doing well and have been transitioned outside for about two weeks now. The next week or so will be in the low 40's/ 30's at night so they'll come in over night for a week or so.

Calling them "trees" may be an overstatement, but I'm glad they are doing well!

I began hard pruning last night. Some flower buds just too hard to resist. More will be pruned back. I try to prune back to where branches fork.

Outside in the sun, when above freezing, in garage or house for nights that drop below freezing. The "bonsai 2 step dance".

Brussel's has the vast majority of their stock in greenhouses. Cool, but covered and protected from freezing. They are less than 30 miles south of Memphis TN, just over the border into MS. I would keep the quince protected from frost, because it probably never saw a single frost all of 2017-2018 winter.
