Developped from 1 year old plant. Planted in the ground and groundlayer one year later. This is the second repot after that. It's basically a stick in a pot with a rootbase. I planned to groundgrow this one but I was afraid to lose the rootbase so I put it back in the box. If I want a tapering trunk I need to shop and close a large wound so I might have no other option but I will see next time.

No wire was used so far. I just cut the side branches to get maximal elongation in the hope to induse taper. The weight pulled branches down. Several buds now start on the trunk so that will be the final branches. That's the reason I was thinking about ground growing So i can do a hard cutback in a few years.

Hm, thinking again I think I might've wired the Young shoots in the beginning. I'll check wire marks tomorrow.

It's a nice stick. Cut the roots short enough., That zelkova will have a nice flare in no time.

Nebari looks great.
I have European Hornbeam in fridge stratifying.
Ready to try some seedling air-layers.I here they layer well.
Hopefully accellerated growth in the hydro room.
I really like the lush green leaves this species can produce.

I found them to be very slow layering..
Fingers crossed then.
Thanks.
Peter Chan said they layer.I have also found seedling to layer much better especially when coaxed with co2 and bio stimulants.
This zelkova was only 6 days and I can get full roots in 9-12 whereas outdoors can take at least a couple weeks with subpar results....Wishful thinking anyways,Right!
This is zelkova too.........this can be manipulated and chances increased though, especially in a grow room.Don’t know till I try!
