I received these two from evergreen gardenworks today. One is a Prairie Fire, the other is a Mary Potter. I am prepared for once, and have some bigger pots that I can put them in. Should I just let them run all summer, and prune them back some late summer/early fall?MARY POTTER.jpgMARY POTTER BUD.jpgPRAIRIE FIRE.jpgPRAIRIE FIRE BLOOM.jpg First time with these, so any advice would be appreciated.

That’s what I’d do, except maybe late fall when the leaves have dropped. Meanwhile, manage growth and ramification by pinching off apical buds as appropriate. After having a similar conversation with Sorce about a flowering apricot, I would also say that if you can identify branches you know you won’t want later, prune ‘em and paste ‘em now to avoid wasting the tree’s energy on crap you’re going to inevitably get rid of.
But I kill trees, so my advice is worth what it costs.

They look great! I love the flower color of yours. Mine start out pink like your first pictures (the Mary Potter?) but then as they open the pink fades and the flowers are all white. Have they opened all the way yet?

The Prairie Fire is the purple one, but the Mary Potter's blooms aren't quite open yet. Hoping for pink, but they may be white, looking at the one's closest to opening. But it's all good, flowers are flowers.:)

They look very similar to mine before they opened so they may be turning white. But like you said, flowers are flowers!

What kind of pot are you looking at repotting them into, and when?

I got some decent hard plastic pots, that look a little nicer than nursery pots from Amazon, they'll be going in. Not going to mess with them until they're done blooming, so I can enjoy the flowers.

that's what I did. One year in a larger pot, then into the ground!
Mine will most likely spend winter in the garage. Not so much worried about the climate, we have a crab, pear, plum and cherry in the yard. I am more concerned about the critters.

Call me, there are a few details that are not difficult but being overlooked here. Trust me on this one it will be worth the 10 minutes ;)

Mine will go in bigger pots, once they are done blooming, and it warms up a bit. Let me know how the cuttings go please.
