I almost regret buying this tree, just because it's so.....blah....with the straight trunks...

I originally liked it simply for it's dead wood section, which I lime sulfered last winter.

I got it from the '17 Bonsai Day, or whatever it's called, at the National Arboretum in DC....the wizard-like man that sold it to me said that it should stay in it's bucket for at least the rest of the year...
I decided to NOT repot it this year, and its now getting quite bushy....

I don't want to let the inner foliage die, so I'm thinking about a springtime cut back...

Here's my dilemma...
1) I don't have a styling in mind for it yet... suggestions are welcome. (I'm leaning towards a sort of multi-trunk formal/informal upright hybrid....I dunno)
2) I haven't pruned back any of my yews in spring before...
(Pretty sure it'll be fine, but still...)

Think I should open it up?...
Will probably do minor wiring if I do...
The alternative is to wait until summer, when the new growth is fully hardened off...and risk losing the inner foliage.

I love the people that use the term, "wait till it hardens off".

I like to translate that to waste of good time........

I know full well what hardening off means and that ain't it, brutha Al!
It also has nothing to do with "plants grown indoors"....where did you find this garbage Al?

Edit:
Well, you score zero credibility points with me on that one buddy, sorry....but that takes a few points away...
Who wrote that?
I can point you to a good definition of what "hardening off" means, if you need one.

Keep in mind that you can only type into google hardening off.

Don't send me some baffoon article written by some knoob with sticks in pots that knows shit about how to ramify a plant, of which I can show you numerous pictures of how I do it with out wasting all that stupid time waiting for the meristem to look "golden"

I can show you the pictures with my well ramified maples, which are hedged every other day, hardened off or not....bwahahahahah

Just for the record and actually knowing what one is talking about.....I think your confusing "Hardening off" with the act of "lignification", the green part turning into wood. You don't have to wait till then "sport" or "buddy".

If you waited till candles on pines hardened off or lignified before candle pruning the reason for doing it would be lost.
